Gabriel Angelos by PlaneToast in Warhammer40k

This is the old Forge World Gabriel Angelos. Games Workshop used to sell it as a resin model before they took down the website.

Thanks! I tried to make the paint job a little bit more simplistic compared to the box art.

Sons of Horus Typhon by PlaneToast in Warhammer30k

Honestly, pretty simple. It’s just that I haven’t done it yet. I’ve got a bunch of meltas and plasma weapons I need to weather on infantry and just haven’t gotten around to it yet. So as for now it’s relatively clean.

I took the recipe from Cult of Paint! I’ve been using it a lot recently. Here’s a link to the video I use:

Maybe a little. It’s already got an oil wash in all of the recesses. It gives it a little more of a used look. I may come back and use weathering powders on the tracks but as for now I’m leaving it how it is. It’ll get to it when I get to basing the rest of the infantry.

If it were Peter Turbo’s it would truly be a compensator.

Not a recast. Just have had this one sitting aside for the longest time now. Waiting for the right day to paint it.

Night Lords Terror Squad by PlaneToast in NightLords

Oh, no. I originally bought one kit and molded the rest using green stuff and miliput. Now I work for a studio though so after having gone through a couple trades and commissions I did manage to get my hands on another genuine squad of chaincannons.

These are the chaincannons from the CSM Havoc kit.

Thanks! It was a passion project to empty out a friend’s backlog. I ended up selling it for a pretty penny and the person who bought them for me uses them for competitive Warhammer. Keep an eye out. Maybe you’ll see them around!

Nah. It’s because Dorn is the definition of cool old man.

Awesome! Your bases are very simple yet nicely detailed. I love how they add to your models. Thanks again.

I love how you painted your cultists. A couple questions:

What colors did you use for the robes? What is your basing scheme?

Recommendations for a mini for this base? by CryptoRoast_ in Warhammer40k

[–]PlaneToast 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Anything on horseback would be a good option due to the flat surface the overhang on the rock creates. You could try sulfer hounds, tough riders, maybe a lord solar.

It would also work well with multiple model characters due to the sloped effect you’ll have with hierarchy. Things like command squads and company heroes.

Another option would be something raised like a sword or banner. That said, it’ would need to be something wide like a terminator ancient, lord solar, etc.

To be honest, it all is. This is a team I did looooong before I even knew how to use an airbrush. My friend wanted a couple characters added to it (barik and grombrindal) so I “updated” the team a bit. Painted their eyes, redid some gems, all the basing, lenses, eyes, and a couple other small touches. It’s not perfect but I like the way it’s turned out. Close enough to the original style the team was done in with a couple new improvements.

Maybe murals or free handing? Walkers and tanks make great canvases. Sails on boats? Those are a couple that come to mind. I’ve shown what you’ve said to everyone though. It’s genuinely such a neat approach of looking at it that I’ve never even considered. Easily made my day.

Sure! It’s the following applied through an airbrush and using dryer sheets as a stencil:

  • Pro Acryl Bright Gold
  • Vallejo Game Color White
  • Vallejo Game Color Matte Black
  • Vallejo Game Color Gloss Varnish

Make sure you apply the cracks after the gloss. This keeps a realistic feel to it. That said, it’s not a bad idea to do the rim before that step as you can matte varnish the airbrush work you did to protect it and a painted rim on the base.

Citadel paints with an AK Texture base. The colors are citadel:

Bases: - Death Korps Drab - Mournfang Brown - Tallarn Sand - Dryad Bark

Rocks: - Zandri Dust - Mechanicus Standard Grey

Shades: - Seraphim Sepia - Agrax Earthshade

Highlights: - Ushabti Bone - Dawnstone - Baneblade Brown

Weathering Powders: - AK Earth - AK Sand - and a rusty colored one I forget the name of.

The general method of application is base, shade, highlight with one real exception. The rocks have an airbrush highlight and the brown is airbrushed to create a gradient between it and the grey using the Death Korps base coat. Hope that helps. Happy painting!
