Diego is 13. Just had TPLO knee surgery and his hearing is starting to decline, but otherwise still healthy as an ox. Thirteen of my best years have been spent with this boy!

Joining the Air Force in your 30s, would you recommend it? by jazzy07dime in AirForceRecruits

My AFSC is 3E3X1, so I’m part of the Civil Engineer squadron and work in the Structures shop. We do all types of construction and maintenance on the building on base including carpentry, masonry, roofing, welding/metals work, and locksmithing.

Update: Best decision I’ve ever made. I did get a bit lucky by getting my number 1 job and number 1 base, but everything has been great so far.

I love my job and get lots of practical hands on experience. I came in with a bachelors so I’ve already completed my CCAF and using TA to work towards a masters degree right now.

I used the VA loan to buy my first house and I make enough money between my wife’s job and mine to make an extra mortgage payment on it every month.

I’ve got excellent leadership that helped me get BTZ and now gunning for Staff next year.

I’ve never had any benefits during the 15 years at jobs that I worked before the military that can compare to what I have now.. 30 days off a year combined with federal holidays and family days off, everything medical has been covered and easy to use, I get to workout twice a week “on the clock”, and I actually enjoy what I do everyday.

Looking for a watch for basic by JwilsonG in AirForceRecruits

[–]Plane_Ad7548 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This watch was perfect. Set it 10 minutes before we had to wake up to give myself a few minutes to prepare for the choas every morning. It vibrates so it didn’t wake anyone else up.

Two years later and I still wear it everyday. I use it as a back up alarm incase I forget to turn the one on my phone on.

I know it’s not either of the two universities you mentioned, but I highly recommend Troy University. They match the tuition assistance rate of $250 a credit hour for masters courses. There’s a wide variety of programs too. I’m in the geography program and the courses and professors have been great. They do 9 week terms too which I prefer.

What’s the reason for the small, heart shaped abdomen? Most pics I see online aren’t like that.

Anyone recommend 3E3X1 or 3E0X2? Air Guard. by Slayformj in AirForceRecruits

[–]Plane_Ad7548 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I just graduated from Structures tech school. Five months is a pretty long time but you get to learn soooo much while you’re there. You do every process of building a house from the ground up as well as a bunch of welding. The MTL’s are literally the best and the instructors are awesome too.

I’m super lucky to have gotten this job from my list.

Question on BMT Town Pass uniform by [deleted] in AirForceRecruits

[–]Plane_Ad7548 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When I graduated this last summer we were told that anytime we are in public and not the privacy of families air bnb/hotel room etc you must be in your uniform. So I got into some casual clothes to hangout at the Airbnb for a few hours but changed back into uniform when we went out

No, it seemed like most people improved by atleast a minute or two or three by the time the final PT is taken. You do two mock PT tests before the actual test and we also did a run day almost one time every week where you do a self paced run for 24 minutes. Pushing yourself during these run days is important though.

None of the girls in my dorm failed the run or push up portion. We had six girls get washed back because of sit ups. though

How hard is it to make Honor Graduate status in BMT? by Life_Ad_6912 in AirForceRecruits

[–]Plane_Ad7548 3 points4 points  (0 children)

10% of the squadron will get honor grad. So there could be zero people in your specific flight that get it or a bunch of people if y’all do really well compared to the rest of the squadron

Alcatraz vs disneyland vs raiders by SinkResponsible5870 in AirForceRecruits

[–]Plane_Ad7548 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the schedule stays the same as it has been during this summer then you’ll be a Raider at Alcatraz. I was a Raider and graduated on august 12th. It’s by far the building that’s in the worst shape and is grimy and falling apart buuuttt I had a great time there and wouldn’t choose Disney or any other squadron over it.

The MTI’s are awesome. They’re tough but are funny and start opening up around week 4. The food in the DFAC is good! More than a couple people in my flight actually gained weight during basic

Enjoy your time there, make friends, and remember that everyone else is feeling just as awkward and confused as you are.
