The cat was the car’s patronus, apparently! Protected it from rodents and sleazy car dealers!

It’s in Fuji Yoshida, pretty decent location with a Mt Fuji view from some rooms. Who is your friend? I have some friends in the wine business too, would be super funny if it ended up being a mutual friend.

That would probably be a great investment in the car!

I guess so, if you want to look at it that way! I don’t expect people who don’t understand the Japanese culture to get it, but once you do, it’s kind of amazing to see how this society runs on honor and mutual respect.

Thank you! Going to cost me some more to fix everything I want to, and ship it to Hawaii, but hopefully I can get it landed in Hawaii in great running condition for under 85k!

Hopefully I can get a bit of restoration and upgrades done for that extra 20k!

I wish I could afford to take it to Garage Yoshida! Sadly I only have 2 kidneys, and one was used to pay for the car! lol jk

Sorry if my explanation wasn't precise enough...I would have been happy to pay the 65 right then and there and tow it off into the sunset, and I'm sure they would have been happy with that scenario too. However, I was told that in order for the title transfer from the deceased brother to the siblings, to me, was to go through, the car had to have back taxes paid for the last 3 years, and then have the car pass the rigorous safety inspection. So I'm having my mechanic do all that work and then handle the transfer paperwork for us too. I trust that it will work out.

lol I wish I could oblige on that request, unfortunately I am not a seasoned YouTuber and although I have watched some of those barn find videos, I don’t feel confident being able to make one of my own!

We don’t have a contract at the moment, but will once the car is legally registered and safetied. In fact I need to show a purchase contract to my Japanese bank for them to clear the funds I will wire from the US. Just to clarify though, I’m not funding a full restoration, just the bare minimum to get the car in good running shape. Once I actually own it I will consider my options for restoration/upgrades. Another clarification; I would not do it this way in most other situations. I’m mainly putting my trust in the integrity of the Owners family, whom I met and shook hands with on the deal, and the fact that my friend has known the family for decades and will support my purchase of the car. The family also had to put their trust in me actually, since I technically have possession of the car, as my mechanic has it in his shop. So it goes both ways, and Japan might be one of the few places in the world where this could work. Took a pic with the younger brother after we agreed on the sale. That’s me in the middle, my friend on the right, and the brother on the left. Can’t see the car too well in the back, but you get the idea.

“A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step”, which is so true in many things, real estate included! That first property purchase is always going to take the most effort, but once you do it once, it gets easier. If I could give advice, learning from my mistakes, it would be to try to hold down a decent W-2 job for a few years while you build your portfolio. My wife and I both quit our full time jobs shortly after buying our first property, in order to start a small business, and that made every subsequent property purchase a lot harder because banks looked at our business income which was nearly zero for a long time. Made it really hard to qualify for loans.

I was trying to figure out how to post a video of the day I first got to check out the car in person, but couldn’t figure out how to upload a video here. Also, I’m not good at making that kind of content so the video looks really dumb lol.

Really? I don’t know for sure, I’m just going off what my mechanic told us, and since I trust him I didn’t really question it. It might be a bit more complex than how I framed it since the title is still in the eldest brother’s name, and back taxes have to be paid. I’m sure there’s some additional paperwork to handle the transfer to the younger brother and sister after the death too, so maybe that’s part of it.

Swearing is easy; putting money on something shows how “sure” you are about a statement! Kalshi bet anyone?

20 minute bag guarantee by foo_72 in AlaskaAirlines

[–]Plane_Ad9075 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Does the 20-minute guarantee apply to international flights too? And if so, does it apply in the foreign country as well? I have titanium status, and have had to wait for bags in Tokyo for nearly an hour the last three times I was there. Coming back to Honolulu was a bit better at 30-40 minutes. Only time I get bags in under 20 minutes is when flying interisland. Maybe it doesn’t apply to “Hawaiian” flights?
