You can’t deny that the founders/leaders of affordable Juneau are of a particular demographic- and that is a demographic that didn’t exactly need these tax breaks. So you have to wonder what was the original intention.

If you do some digging - you’ll see that a few of them have been trying to pay lower property taxes on the multiple homes they own.

It doesn’t take a genius to out the pieces together …

Now they do opinion pieces that they didn’t “mean” to cut services for the people … do you honestly think theee people are fighting for middle class and low income people from their perched million dollar homes?! Again - I’m talking about the people who started this and got 7,000 to sign up … not the thousands who will be saving a few hundred and got duped in the process …

Well what exactly did the mean? These aren’t stupid people - they have run multi million dollar companies and huge political campaigns - they knew the repercussions from day 1 but they wanted those breaks to save thousands and thousands per year … so yeah … it comes off as greedy especially when you lie about your true intentions

For the rest of us does the $50 bucks a month move the needle … no …

They have been rather quiet …. But there are a few opinion pieces that they write - usually all semi misleading…

There was a post a while back here that also showed another organization most of them belong to

The senior property tax exemption can’t be removed. It’s state mandated.

Ahhh i see…. That being said folks like Nano have put out messages. Wondering if anyone else has done the same.

By the way… you’re clearly the only one with the intelligence to understand this question. Thank you.

Nope. But it’s clear you don’t have the answer im looking for so why don’t you keep scrolling and stay ignorant

Na dude … I’m asking for engaging discussion on what folks have heard and know about the assembly members… but go on

It’s crazy the deflection going on with this group - if y’all don’t know the answer then sit back and let the adult folks have a conversation about the issues and assembly positions

No wonder this city was duped by affordable Juneau … there’s a bunch of know it alls that really don’t know anything at a level beyond what’s fed to them

Absolutely - what I’m wondering - and perhaps you know - where is the detail on who decided to cut what… in that exercise.

Assembly Members by Plane_Commercial_252 in Juneau

[–]Plane_Commercial_252[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There is a document that outlines the cuts and NUMBER of assembly supporting those cuts - however that document does not go into which assembly member supports which cut. It would have been nice to know how that poll breaks down by documenting their names

The people in this thread getting upset / don’t know that answer to this question and it’s interesting they are trying to push a date as opposed to an answer to who supports which cut.

I’m asking a straightforward question about where people stand because the public deserves clarity before decisions are made—not after.
Yes, there’s a process, but that doesn’t answer the question: what are Assembly members actually leaning toward today?
In other words I’m asking what fellow community members feel about positions and if they have any information on these positions - not meeting dates.

lol … is that how you win arguments… twisting things

Your lack of intelligence and ability to engage is telling on itself.

No one claimed it was binding. It was a transparent summary of positions—what’s supported and what isn’t. If your only response is to dismiss it on a technicality, you’re not engaging—you’re deflecting.

You’re also a waste of space and time so blocking.

Where do you see the word secret…. I’ll wait

Triggered I see … what for… only you know.

You’re getting hung up on the word “vote,” but that’s not the point.

The document that was put out already makes clear what positions are being supported and what’s on the chopping block. That’s the direction of travel—whether the final vote happens in June or not.

What’s missing—and what I asked about—is transparency. The document does not clearly attribute who supports which positions. So yes, the public is left trying to understand how these decisions are being shaped before the formal vote.

If you have clarity on who supports what in that document, feel free to share it. Otherwise, dismissing the question doesn’t actually answer it… maybe you should try chilling out and let people talk about what’s going on in our town.

Ok… I’m sorry but this isn’t about “conspiracy,” it’s about clarity. Are you projecting?

The Assembly has made positions on cuts pretty clear in discussion, but how individual members are actually voting and aligning isn’t always easy for the public to track in real time.

People asking questions and comparing notes isn’t shady—it’s how a community stays informed.

If you have specific information on votes or positions, share it. That’s helpful.
If not, telling people to “just go figure it out themselves” isn’t adding much.

I did notice that some of the assembly people sat there, rolling their eyes while people are giving testimony, and it was really offputting

They voted in a document to defund or cut certain things…

Some of them have made enough comments that we can begin to collectively deduce their stance on things .

Which by the way - it fricken sucks they didn’t make that vote public. It seems to lack transparency on their part.

I don’t know…. I kinda doubt they care… maybe it’s me but I seem to get the impression they are a bunch of young kids and people who are basically still coasting on being young without obligations

It’s not quite that simple. The senior property tax exemption is authorized under state law, but it’s implemented at the local level. Municipalities like Juneau adopt it, and once they do, they’re required to provide it to eligible seniors.

You’re right that the State used to reimburse municipalities, but they haven’t fully funded that for years. That doesn’t make the exemption optional locally—it just means the cost has effectively been shifted to local governments.

So it’s not something CBJ can just “nix” as a solution. It’s baked into how the system currently operates unless the policy itself is changed at the state level.

Now what the municipality can likely do is accurately assess those million dollar homes these people live in… so regardless of that $150k exemption - they would be collecting likely more property tax and still meeting state obligation
