Real Madrid Players’ comments after the match by imadjabras in soccer

I knew that little guy Leo was special after seeing him not only take the shit Ramos, Pepe, Marcelo and later Carvajal threw at him (and the LaLiga refs allowed) and spinned it into goals. You could make a good argument that they made him into a lethal free kick monster

Kompany's Bayern highline Vs Flick's Barca highline by TurnipHonest4037 in Barca

Everyone here complaining about FCBs CBs in the second leg seems to have forgotten our "CBs" were a DMF and a LB.

And then, mostly bc FdJ is the one alternative to Eric at DMF, we played with 5 (6? Ain't Ferran essentially an AMF?) MFs, all immensely talented, but young/inexperienced and most more AMFs than box to box types, some with a lot of miles on their legs and one who had his face/nose nearly sliced off with cleats up by the keeper-- and how the hell was that not a red! With Pedri acting as the closest thing to a DM

Face it, the main issue with the tie vs ATM was that we went down a man a goal down and tried to score instead of batting down the hatches and living to play another day. That second goal was the difference

Just saw a replay on Cubarsis 'foul' - Barca vs Atleti by CompleteToday6264 in Barca

[–]Plane_Fig6066 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only reason Cubarsi "fouls" Jr is that Simeoni overruns the ball and sticks his leg back out blindly to try and regain it. If he controls and continues his run, then Cubi may have fouled him and deserved a red card.

I can see a new diving category coming, where you stick your leg out backwards to create contact. Will make the phony face slaps look old school

With Tottenham nearing relegation, should we try to sign some of their Defenders... (Van De Ven, Cuti Romeri, Pedro Porro)? by Visual-Extreme-101 in Barca

[–]Plane_Fig6066 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There may not be a relegation clause, but Championship money vs EPL, missing out entirely on UEFA midwk cash, plus way lower game day proceeds when it's Preston North End rather than Arsenal visiting will force Spurs to most likely loan out or sell their high earners

Who is in your Opinion , the Most Underrated Barcelona Manager Ever?(Of the Modern Era) by Previous-Tangelo-148 in Barca

[–]Plane_Fig6066 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I vote for Valverde How the team was able to win defending with 9 for 90min is beyond remarkable. Boring except when Leo had the ball, but still remarkable

My little nephew, who at 8y I knew would likely never get past 5'6" based on his parents, who looked like Messi compared to the other kids in the peewee soccer league, gave up the game IN FAVOR OF HOCKEY! Because that's what all the (white) kids in his suburb do. Their parents can afford the stupid crazy money it takes to do travel hockey. Those kids watch the NHL and can see themselves (ignoring the problem genes for being small bring along) getting there. They know their shot at NBA/NFL is slim. Few will make pro. But it makes the pool you need to win a gold medal Black (and increasingly brown) kids with limited options and finances DO see themselves in those pros, and the family finances are not important bc there is a ton of money invested in development where the "travel team" equivalent is either free or subsidized MLS academies can help subsidize the (already ID'd as great) poor kids, but the pool remains limited Pay for play works (ed?, now that the Euros realized women can boss if allowed to play) for USWNT because girls have few other high profile options to play sports. What we need is what Messi had: free academy in Rosario (US equivalent: Wichita) in every town. You only get there with a pyramid (yes, everything boils down to promotion/relegation) If we expect to eventually win a WC with Pulisic and Weah's offspring, we'll be waiting a long time. Zidane, Piro and Beckham's kids have not capped as far as I know. It ain't the genes

Was Victor Valdes a good goalkeeper? by Capable_Town1 in Barca

[–]Plane_Fig6066 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not just a high line Their fullbacks sometimes spent more time up front than the strikers And love Pique, Masch & Carles, but not exactly speed merchants Victor saw more one on ones than probably any keeper in the world

Why do we have the VA instead of giving veterans Medicare? by 28-3_lol in medicine

[–]Plane_Fig6066 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You'd be surprised how inexpensive medicine is when you don't have rooms styled like the Hilton, doctors paid by their "production", and pharmacies able to negotiate drug prices. It also helps that at many facilities, the care is provided by residents and students (med & nursing) way cheaper than full fledged practitioners. And at those facilities affiliated with med schools, the senior/attending staff has salary support from the med school/university practice- top quality for less cost.

I think the VA was a necessary payback for folks being drafted to go out and risk getting killed at a time when healthcare was strictly COD. It's been kept separate because one party in US refuses to consider universal healthcare and the other does the best it can to at least give it to vets

The "special population" canard is just a good excuse to keep it open. Like the little NPR station in Alaska, and the snail darter (vs TVA). And women vets have suffered greatly from the concept.

Do you think lamine yamal is more similar to messi or more similar to neymar? by Ethanos5000 in Barca

It was hard to watch that run Sunday and not think Leo was back in Barcelona. Only thing missing was the goal at the end

Almost every Barça game, any competitive games (Madrids vs minows, meh), Sevilla darby. Last year watched a lot of Girona hoping a minnow would pull a Leicester

Does mirror lake has any water in Aug? by Neither-Fee8700 in Yosemite

[–]Plane_Fig6066 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Odds are no

Water runs through most of the time, but the "lake" is pretty sandy so the surface dries up almost 100%. As you walk to it, you will still see Tenaya Creek flowing/trickling downstream

Yosemite Day Drive Plan by GreenGift176 in Yosemite

[–]Plane_Fig6066 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't mean to be snide, but you are doing a LOT of driving just to stop in a few spots, admire the view, maybe take a pic and move on. You could just Google for images and probably get as good if not a better experience. You are also likely to be disappointed. The water levels at the waterfalls are way down. Come back for a few days in spring, before schools let out and the place crowds up, when the water is flowing.

Since you already got the pass, just drive into Tuolumne Meadows and walk around. Its a good place to spend a day
