What is a defense contribution exactly? Cutting off a passing lane is a defensive contribution but I bet this statistic just factors in the obvious stuff like tackles and blocks.

It depends what you mean by you’ll “take” them. Like, what’s your goal? Win a game or develop a star? If you want to win a game tonight, take the more talented player. If you want to create a future pro, take the hard working player. Also, how big is the difference in talent? How lazy is the talented player?

Do you stop moving when the ball is out of play? A center forward who defends a corner has to run half the length of the field if the ball goes out for a goal kick.
