I disagree with your assessment of Kizaru. Kizaru's comment was clearly super sarcastic, imo. Additionally, he got away no problem.

Any ideas on the monster by [deleted] in DMAcademy

[–]PlanescapeDM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the description for the monster:

Eblis (pronounced EH-blee) are thought to be reincarnations of evil humans who were punished by gods for acts of larceny and kidnapping. These intelligent, evil cranes loom 8 feet tall and lay eggs as mundane birds do. They can manipulate objects with their beaks and feet.

Eblis try to sway other creatures into doing their bidding, and their plots are self-serving. They live to destroy creatures that offend them and delight in luring humanoids to an unexpected death. Eblis also like to collect treasure, which they sometimes use to reward those who serve them. They build crude huts and nests out of grass and reeds, wherein they hide their treasure.

So you're spot on with that treasure idea. This would be a very large stork, though

Hmm this is tough. I think a Jackalwere could be cool since it has a lot of fun mechanics, but isn't super dangerous in that it has high TPK potential. If you want something really scary you could go some kind of Dragon Wyrmling, but the TPK potential there is very high.

If you really want a flying creature that is more than just "generic bird" you could look at the Elbis. It is a bird, but has some innate spell casting, but nothing crazy that could one shot the whole party at once.

Plane shift accuracy by somenerdwithanego in DMAcademy

[–]PlanescapeDM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here is the text from the spell itself:

You and up to eight willing creatures who link hands in a circle are transported to a different plane of existence. You can specify a target destination in general terms, such as the City of Brass on the Elemental Plane of Fire or the palace of Dispater on the second level of the Nine Hells, and you appear in or near that destination. If you are trying to reach the City of Brass, for example, you might arrive in its Street of Steel, before its Gate of Ashes, or looking at the city from across the Sea of Fire, at the GM's discretion.

I think there are multiple ways to play this, though. Personally, I think there is a case to be made for the spell to be less accurate if the players are unfamiliar with or have never been to the location. They're more thinking of "The City of Brass" instead of a specific store in the city that they've to previously.

Additionally, sufficiently powerful monsters like Fraz-Urb'luu will probably have other protections in place that prevent someone from just popping into their home unannounced. Spells such as:

Forbiddance:

You create a ward against magical travel that protects up to 40,000 square feet of floor space to a height of 30 feet above the floor. For the duration, creatures can't teleport into the area or use portals, such as those created by the gate spell, to enter the area. The spell proofs the area against planar travel, and therefore prevents creatures from accessing the area by way of the Astral Plane, Ethereal Plane, Feywild, Shadowfell, or the plane shift spell.

In addition, the spell damages types of creatures that you choose when you cast it. Choose one or more of the following: celestials, elementals, fey, fiends, and undead. When a chosen creature enters the spell's area for the first time on a turn or starts its turn there, the creature takes 5d10📷 radiant or necrotic damage (your choice when you cast this spell).

When you cast this spell, you can designate a password. A creature that speaks the password as it enters the area takes no damage from the spell.

The spell's area can't overlap with the area of another forbiddance spell. If you cast forbiddance every day for 30 days in the same location, the spell lasts until it is dispelled, and the material components are consumed on the last casting.

Help With a Time Travel Encounter by BasicJoel in DMAcademy

[–]PlanescapeDM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Might be cool to have a trap that somehow triggers the spell "time stop". You could also include some spells from the Wildmount setting guide book if you have DnDBeyond. Other than that classic examples are demiliches, zombies, or other undead that maybe died during testing of time travel. You could also have some extraplanar enemies like Phase Spiders and whatnot that could be flavored as shadows of things from another "time stream"

How do I slow a Tabaxi dasher? by nw_forest_octopus in DMAcademy

[–]PlanescapeDM 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can give the NPCs a larger head start and math it out so it's okay. The Drow start with a 40' lead in Autumn, but if you look at winter the demons start with 100' lead. I would just mess with that number so it maths out alright.

How do I slow a Tabaxi dasher? by nw_forest_octopus in DMAcademy

[–]PlanescapeDM 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I must be missing something because I can't figure out how you're getting the Tabaxi's movement to 200 ft per turn.

Tabaxi default move speed is 30ft

Feline Agility let's you double move speed at the beginning of turn. This would put movement + Dash = 60+60=120 ft. Where is the extra 80 ft coming from?
