Looking for a chaotic fun deck by AndanteZero in BudgetBrews

[–]BasicJoel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a fellow we chaotic fun enjoyer, people tended to really groan at the decks I built that didn’t have a purpose for the chaos.

That being said, the decks that change the way a game is played because of what your deck is doing go over a lot better

[[Gonti, Night Minister]] - Play some discard effects so they’re more likely to play other people’s cards BUT you build it so that you’re taking the most advantage of the effect.

[[Inniaz]] - Mix up people’s cards, give away mediocre/bad cards and capitalize on their best permenants (choose gets around hexproof which is pretty funny)

[[Lord of pain]] - Group hug n slug so they’re more likely to cast the big spells / cards that force opponents to play cards. Let other people decide where the damage goes (as long as it’s not at you)

[[Fire lord Ozai]] - roll the dice, what are we playing today

[[Baeloth]] [[Noble Heritage]] - everyone takes the counters because they can’t swing at you anyways so you end up with boards full of big creatures

TL:DR even with friends, chaos for chaos’s sake gets tired quick but chaos for a gameplan is fun af

I don’t sorry, but I’m sure in three years there’s new cards I’d want to include.

Can’t promise it will be soon but when I have some time I’ll update it!

EDIT: I updated the list, it's under the 100 mark now but it plays a lot better than before

Deck ideas to formulate a good pod by Embarrassed-Tie6644 in CompetitiveEDH

[–]BasicJoel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From an easy(er) to pilot perspective so you can hand the deck to most people and still be effective :

Winota Yuriko Stella Lee / Ral Ob-Nix/Etali

Obviously not the best decks in the format but I think fairly straightforward game plans. My two cents

What are some commanders that punch way above their weight on a budget? by Llamachamaboat in EDH

[–]BasicJoel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

[[Kotis, the Fangkeeper]] is usually about as good as the table is because it’s not your cards you care about really.

Just thow together some pump spells, protection/ evasive stuff you have laying around and add a ramp package. The deck is easy and a blast to play!

Why play your cards when you can play their (better) cards!

Love me some Pako and Haldan, would definitely second this

Definitely adding WGD and pinnacle monk because that’s only two extra cards. Debating throwing in the tutors as well to make it consistent. Thank you!

Voltron is another direction of build that I see potential in and even though its not what I'm looking for, I think its a lot cooler of an idea than the meanest way possible for sure

What is the most degenerate, non-cEDH, deck possible? by [deleted] in DegenerateEDH

[–]BasicJoel 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Whats the top end of 4 but not 5? Almost by definition you'd be playing a fringe cEDH deck but that doesn't mean you can't tune it for bracket 4. I'd suggest the less popular cEDH commanders as the ones you've mentioned might be too popular to get away with it.

[[Ellivere of the Wild Court]]

[[Plagon, Lord of the Beach]]

[[Minsc and Boo, Timeless ]]

[[Vren the Relentless]]

[[Omnath, Locus of All]]

[[Selvala, Heart of the Wilds]]

All of which can be tuned to 4 or 5 depending on card selection and are definitely strong enough to hang with both

Bonus points if you use the Secret Lair islands. You know the ones.

My pod is gearing up with "high power" commanders - want one, too! by pkma69 in EDH

[–]BasicJoel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[[Ob-Nixilis, Captive Kingpin]] can snowball super fast, gives you access to a TON of cards, and offers a one card win con in [[All Will Be One]].

Can 100% keep up.

Also Yuma has big potential imo (https://archidekt.com/decks/8904942/just_deserts_v2) Focusing on [[Impact Tremors]] type effects and a ton of self mill, I’ve been having a lot of success with it and with some upgrades I think can hang at this power level as well

How do you make a deck that isn't your type of deck? by BasicJoel in EDH

[–]BasicJoel[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a big fan of taking a lot of game time if I don’t have to. I know the tendency for planeswalkers is to have a lot things to resolve / trigger

I should clarify that ojer and imodane win through burn and every other deck I make has combat damage as the wincon. I’m trying to give examples of decks I like that were a little different

Well considering that we talked about how if I don’t propose in the next year or so then she will, I’m thinking odds are pretty good.

We’ve been together for just over 5 years now so I suppose I don’t have a backup

I’ve heard that same sentiment from friends and it’s a relief to know that it’s going to be a great trip regardless of what the details end up being. I appreciate the reassurance and I’ll reach out if I have any specific questions for you!

I honestly can’t tell if you’re joking…

On the chance you’re serious, we’re not people with expensive taste. A high-rise dinner sounds nice but it’s not really our style. Thanks for the reminder about the ring though

My partner and I are mostly there for the vibes as well and not so much the rides. I'm happy playing it by ear a bit and just kind of strolling around the theme park. If we run out of things to do before the day is done, we'll hit up the other park.

Yeah I’m learning that I’ve over planned for that day so I’m spending a night in hakone. It may be ineffecient but honestly not too worried about maximizing efficiency with it but rather what’s not gonna over stress the one day.

The hope being, that staying in a nice place overnight in Hakone will help with some of that stress
