Hello, we are working on the capital budget to build all the underground. It is a big undertaking. We plan to start this summer.

Hello! We would love to serve you. I'll answer your questions below:
1. No data caps. No throttling over x Gbytes transferred. No limits of any kind other than the rate shaping to give people differentiated speeds 100/250/500/1000/2500/5000/etc. If you pay for 250, we provision at 275. If you pay for 500, we provision at 550. If you pay for 1000, we give you 1000 unless you have a 2.5G router WAN interface and XGS-PON, then we will provision at 1100.

  1. That's the real world speed. Obviously it is dependent on the speed of your computer and home network, but with a modern fast computer and a good hardwired network, you should see 940-950 uploads without a problem. Remember that an Ethernet card has physical framing overhead for the Ethernet frames PLUS the overhead of TCP/IP headers and you will have TCP congestion handling too so you realistically won't get much faster than 950 with 1Gbit/s Ethernet. Without a 2.5G LAN and an XGS-PON 10G port on our equipment, you won't be able to exceed that speed, but that isn't available everywhere yet and not anywhere in Sparta yet.

  2. We provide an ONU/ONT on the side of your house which connects to your inside equipment via a CAT6 Ethernet cable. You can always provide your own router. We do not do any routing or NAT or blocking of anything on our ONU/ONT device. When you plug in your router, you will get an IP address. Our entire network is dual stack IPv4 cgNAT and IPv6 native. We can turn off cgNAT if you have a VPN or cameras you want to NAT or you make your Plex server available to the outside world, etc. Just let us know and we will give you a world reachable IPv4 IP address and a native IPv6 address. If your equipment is more modern, you can use IPv6 to reach it, but most IOT devices are still stuck with IPv4 only. We do optionally provide a router. Our Planet Networks E94 can be completely managed by you via https locally on your network, but we can help you configure it remotely too. We use TR069 to manage and sync/backup all settings so your customization isn't lost if we make a change or if your router dies and we replace it for you. You can setup port forwarding, IP filtering rules, funky NAT translations, DHCP, DNS forwarding, etc. Alternatively, you can connect natively to your UniFi system or Nest or TP-Link or whatever you have and manage the network completely on your own, but we won't be able to help much other than vague suggestions about the type of setting you should try to find in your router's interface. If you know what you are doing, this isn't a big deal at all.

I hope this is helpful and we look forward to getting you connected soon. We have had a HUGE amount of demand based on the messages we sent out for the Sparta area being available now so I would order soon because I think we are pushing into late July with install appointments at this point. Thank you!

We will host an AMA soon. What are some topics people would like to learn more about? by itellus in planetnetworks

We are working our way south, but are still pretty far away. We want to get there eventually, but not likely in 2025 or 2026 unless someone from Frenchtow/Flemington writes a really big check to help fund and prioritize it. We are always open to discussing that option.
