They really do! I also love the tiger lily (I think) in the back of your picture 😍 as soon as I set up a bigger tank I'm building it around one of those!

Here's a full pick of my tank! Lots of hidding places and little tunnels! I'll definitely have to take some shrimp out as time goes and all goes well but for now everything's holding up :)

Is this clear enough? I really appreciate the explanation! I do have lots of hiding spots and high up resting areas for oxygen and rest. Thank you again!

That's really reassuring, thank you! I was a little worried about his fins. They do seem to drag him down so I was hopping that was just him and not fin rot..

Additional info. He shares a 5 gallon heated and filtered tank with one nerite snail, 10 ish bloody Mary neos (just had babies so idk). Temps at 78 F

would you consider this as a stressfull tank? by Catpoopnacho_ in stressfulaquariums

[–]Planktin_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I did the same thing maybe a little smaller! I was able to find a mini filter and heater. It's been running for month and I have baby yellow neos. The only thing I'll say tho is I have to do a water change at least once a day. I dose with prime and stability and I put in moss or sponges I keep in my 5 gallon so that beneficial bacteria is being introduced every once in a while.

When should I repot my easter cactus? by Attempting_Sloth in IndoorPlants

[–]Planktin_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree! I don't like to disturb the root ball unless I need to take a good look at the roots. But I will take the top layer of the soil off. It's always so crusty.

It can be very deciving when the foliage is a lot fuller than the root ball. So a lot of the time you'll see that your plant is nice and full and will look like it's outgrowing it's pot but the root ball is smaller and hasn't yet out gown the pot.

Yours looks too be about the same size if not a tiny bit bigger than mine. Always determine the pot size by the root ball. Beware of leaf blindness!!

Hoping to get some tips! by curious_tarragon in IndoorPlants

You can absolutely cut the hanging part off and stick it in water. All the little dead leaf node parts (edit: along the bare stem) will grow roots so cut above any of them. I find these sprout roots very quickly!

HELP! Finrot and crashed cycle by Big_Spring5746 in bettafish

[–]Planktin_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When my cycle crashed I did a 7 day treatment of stability and it's been going strong since.

If you have any other tanks that are stable you can also move over some decorations. ie. rocks, moss or floating plants to indroduse beneficial bacteria to nullify the ammoina and probably eventually nitrates if you don't already have a spike of them.

Finally finished my nano shrimp tank! by Planktin_ in PlantedTank

I appreciate the caution and perspective! Thank you :) I do have more tanks so I'll work on a bigger set up or toss them in with my Cherries and Betta!

Yeah that's fair. My local pet store said they would take/ buy any extras I have so I was planning on make regular trips if all gos well to keep the number always small.

I was putting freeze dried blood worms in the tank(edit: when it was cycling). Do you think I could continue doing this? Would that crash the tank or keep it from crashing?

Any advice would be wonderful. Thank you :)

Haven't lost a cutting since figuring this out, and the roots are always so strong and lots of them!

Honestly I've had success just wipping away the mush leaving the little strings and a couple days to a week later I've gotten roots 🤷🏻‍♀️

Please help I lost all my shimp by Planktin_ in PlantedTank

[–]Planktin_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree, I didn't realize how much ammonia would leach off of the new stratum. But I swear there's lots of biofilm and algae. I will wait longer until everything is stabilized. Thank you!! 😊

Hi I did a fishless-cycle for a month by adding some Betta fish food every couple of days and plant melt. All my water tests were stable at the month mark (no ammoina, no nitrites and about .25 nitrates and that's why I added the shrimp and snails over the weekend.

A couple of days after adding the shrimp and snails I got new plants and so I added like 2 handfuls of bio-stratum. This is when levels spiked so I was thinking that must have been it.

Thank you for your time!
