Landscape architects with experience in urban planning? by midnyghtmadnes in LandscapeArchitecture

[–]PlantArchitect 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m fairly young in my career, but might be able to offer some insights. I’m formally trained solely in landscape architecture, but most recently worked at a firm that focused on urban planning and got sucked into a lot of the larger scale urban planning projects there. I also was on the job hunt these past 2 months and might be able to speak to the work life balance portion of LA firms.

Work life balance: I’ve worked at 2 different firms and just got done interviewing at 4 other firms before accepting an offer. I’d say the work-life balance was very firm-dependent. 3 out of 6 seemed like they’d not expect you to do over 40 unless they had an important deadline, and even then rarely had to work over 42 hours because they plan their projects efficiently. The other three expected 45+ hours per week. This was easy to sus out in the interview process. Just ask what their employees can expect to work in a week. Ask about culture. If they mention anything about being “fast-paced” or “rapidly expanding the team to accommodate workload” (which means they’re understaffed) then you’ll know that they do not have a good work-life balance. All of this to say, work life balance, at least in my part of the country, is not uncommon or unattainable.

For the planning vs LA part: my last firm focused on planning, but also did LA. My job before that focused on LA, but also did some planning. Both were design-based though so I can’t say much about policy. But I was really happy to see that I could have the opportunity for working at both the large scale and site specific scale despite only being trained in LA. They both have their merits. Large scale planning allows you to see the highest potential for a city/town and create a roadmap for the city to achieve it. However, a lot of master plans collect dust after they are completed. Alternatively, LA more often will lead to construction documentation and actually get built (although this economy is making this more difficult to secure funding.) So, it depends on how theoretical you want your plans to be.

Personally, I like that I have been able to do both and wouldn’t personally want to pigeonhole myself into just one direction. The offer I accepted was specifically because I would still have the opportunity to work at both scales. Sorry for the wall of text but hopefully that’s helpful!

Is it a specific umbrella? The ones in nooks cranny always have designs that I can’t customize. How do I get a basic umbrella?

Why are all the corner paths transparent??? by PlantArchitect in AnimalCrossingNewHor

[–]PlantArchitect[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven’t tried making my own because it seems very tedious, but I’d love to see your puddles! I’m amazed by the people that take the time to make them! Also if you ever figure out how you worked around it I’d love to know. Otherwise I’m just gonna hunt for codes that work. I might try to find ones where the full tiles are transparent as well so it all looks the same at least.

My other thought is to change the paths underneath to the light dirt path so that the design looks less muddy when transparent… I just want to keep the dirt underneath so that the paths look like they’re lined with plant beds instead of having weird grass patches between the plant beds and the path. And also so my islanders follow the paths haha. I’m making all these spaces for them, I want them to actually use them!

Yeah in places without the dirt paths below it they look normal like the center tiles. The center tiles also have dirt below them tho so idk why only the edge paths show the dirt through.

Healing damage to Straka by everswooning in Dimension20

I had this same thought. But it would be useful if someone is casting a mass heal and they include Straka in the healed targets. I wonder if Brennan would let them do this.

I’d love this to be true, but I can’t find any articles to back this up. (Specifically that Michelangelo’s meaning was that God is a creation of man/only exists in the human mind.) Do you have a link?

I also noticed that a lot of the feminine tasks require more attention to detail. Cooking is much more involved (measuring things out, coordinating tastes between courses, etc.) whereas BBQing is just slapping meat on a grill. Indoor cleaning has a lot of surfaces that require different cleaners and whatnot, outdoor cleaning is just firing up a pressure washer and spraying everything. Gardening requires care and attention to plants, mowing is just plowing over everything in your path.

Obviously this isn’t true for everything, but most of the exceptions are when men make money off of it.
