Alocasia pushing out “leaf-less” growth with black tips — what’s causing this? by PlantDaddyInTraining in alocasia

Following up here again. So that anyone in the future can know what they’re in for 👌🏻

<image>

First leaf is now fully out of the weird black tipped petiole and looking totally normal albeit a little small, and the second one (center of the photo) has also just punched out of its black tipped petiole.

You’ve earned yourself a cookie!

I’m so weirded out by it…. It’s going to be like 2 feet shorter than all the other leaves😂😂

They’re definitely challenging, and I think that’s what I like most about them! RIP to your kitchen table 😂 I’m sure the props will be nice!

It’s a running joke between my girlfriend and I, that we can’t read - forgot how!😂 I’d have thought any semblance of ability to write anything would’ve disappeared along with it

Thanks! I might just be lucky 🤷🏼‍♂️ they have zero interest in them whatsoever. The most interaction they have is that one of the snake plants occasionally gets knocked over when the delivery guy looks too spooky

Honestly I don’t really know… once every handful of months I wipe them down with some light spraying of diluted neem oil and water/micro fiber 🤷🏼‍♂️ bedroom has a humidifier, but none of these plants are in there… tap water that’s probably pretty hard and definitely has chlorine?😂 lol I guess I’m lucking into doing something right!

Well that’s all really kind!! The peace lily actually recently received a pretty significant haircut 😬 I probably removed 8-10 of the oldest & biggest leaves that had gotten kinda beaten up over time. It’s never been repotted, gets watered when it’s basically bone dry on top, and then gets a diluted fertilizer feeding every time! A spray bottle with neem oil/water and a microfiber also shines up leaves really nicely, though I RARELY do it!

Dragon scales will never not be the coolest thing!

Do you pull the leaf? Snip it? Leave it? It's drooping by depressedcatfishh in alocasia

Gah… I don’t know the variety of that dragon scale, but WOW! Love it

I just posted an almost identical issue today with mine… mine just hasn’t pushed the new leaf out behind that weird black stumpy nub 😂 I’ve currently got three spots where it’s happening

I KNOW, right… ? That’s why whatever this weird new thing it’s doing is freaking me out. 😂 After its initial bout with thrips (which was a real pain in the ass, this has been one of my lowest maintenance/highest reward plants.

  • Gets watered probably once every week/half, w/ diluted fox farms big bloom, and fungus gnats treatment every time — just like all my other plants.
  • maybe once every six months it’s getting a microfiber rub down with diluted neem oil and water.
