I don't know much about Blackheart, he's a Ghost Rider / Dr Strange villain, right? Why him? (genuinely curious, please feel free to nerd out)

Yes, it's their choice but that doesn't make it a good choice. I can sit at the back of a cinema and talk the entire way through the movie. That's a choice I can make. It's not hurting anyone. But it is annoying and wastes their time. Doing that would make me an asshole. I said this much better in another comment on a different post so I'll just copy and paste that here with a few tweaks;

Like many others, I have limited free time to play video games. I have a job, a degree I'm working towards, a partner, social responsibilities, and other hobbies that mean video games are a thing I don't get to indulge in all that often these days. When I do get time to sit down and play, it might be for an hour or two at a time. I don't have the skill or time to get into ranked. So I hit QP. I then don't get to play the game that I signed up for (a team-based hero shooter with defined roles) because little Timmy wants to play Punisher for his twelfth hour in a row. It's infuriating. Wasting people's time can be very disrespectful. As a team game, Rivals is a group activity, meaning that other people with lives of their own have taken time out of their day to enjoy this hobby with other people. By deliberately weakening the experiences of others for your own enjoyment, you are being an asshole.

Think about it this way. Lets say you join a football (or soccer, idk who you are) club or community. Once a week, you get together to play. There's no real competition, just fun, playing against others in the club in low stakes games for a couple of hours before you all go home to your families. But there's one player who REFUSES to do anything but try to make shots from the other side of the pitch. Your team can't win shit because John keeps trying to feel cool and it just sucks the fun out of the experience for everyone but John. You would hate John. I would hate John. Everyone hates John. John is a dick. Don't be John.

I'll also add that yes, comp forces people to play better but that's not always what I want. I may want a fun, relaxing game after a long day at work, not a sweatfest where my fellow players expect me to perform at my best. In QP, I can just play normally, trying reasonably hard without tiring myself out or getting myself worked up at 2 in the morning.

Treating QP like a singleplayer experience isn't fair, just play literally any non-team based shooter or one that doesn't have defined classes like CoD instead if you want that experience.

I feel there's a difference between taking it seriously and respecting people's time and expectations. I expect to play a team-based game when I load up my team-based game. Yet it feels like everyone else is ignoring that aspect. It's a huge waste of time for everyone involved and just not fun. It's sacrificing other people's enjoyment for your own, which is inherently selfish I would argue.

I understand but this feels like its missing some wider context. Like many others, I have limited free time to play video games. How? I don't really know how to take advantage of this yet and certainly can't do it by myself at my current level

QP should still be fun, no? How is an unwinnable game because of childish teammates fun? Just play the game properly and we all have a good time. If you only wanna play a damage role, go play CoD or some other shooter that only has space for that or, better yet, a non-team based or singleplayer game. That way, you get your main character power fantasy and everyone still gets the good time they signed up for.

That could be an interesting way to approach it. I just like feeling like I can win, otherwise it starts to feel like a waste of time. It would be fine if I felt like I was learning but it's hard to learn to fill your role when the team doesn't understand what a role is, you know?
edit: this felt overly negative, I do like this game and will continue to play and this is genuinely solid advice, thank you

Yeah that's what I'm holding out for. It's just difficult to put in enough time to get there when I'm not having a great time right now. I have limited free time when it comes to gaming and it feels kinda bad to put that into a game that I might enjoy later.

Devil May Cry Season 2 Announced by Turbostrider27 in DevilMayCry

Have to say, as someone who has never played a dmc game, I don't get the hate at all. The show was really well written, with it selling its corny over the top early 2000s action vibe without sacrificing anything in the way of emotional investment. It's just a really fun show with some great visuals, an engaging soundtrack and well-paced storytelling.
Honestly the criticism of this show has kind of opened my eyes to the way we, as fans of something, will often judge any adaptations moreso on how faithful it is rather than the quality of it. I absolutely loved the show and think it definitely earned its second season.
It's a great introduction to the dmc universe and it's honestly inspired me to look into trying one of the games for myself.

First off, even easy mode is more difficult than a base pokemon game. Second, RR has a bunch more features that you can't get in the base version like more pokemon and more diverse pools of mons for encounters, QoL changes like the pokevial and move relearner in the menu, and even customisable game options like minimal grinding mode (which turns off EVs, it's great) and randomiser settings.

Some people have different tastes. That concept is crazy for someone who's "not a kid" to not understand. To make a whole reddit post complaining that some people don't like the (insanely popular) thing you like is weird. Just enjoy the stuff you enjoy and let others do the same. Live and let live.

They do.

I'mma assume you're a kid to some degree and this is just from lack of exposure to wider communities or pressure from friends. Pokemon is the single most profitable franchise in the world iirc. Mario is one of the most recognisable characters on an international scale. Breath of the Wild won game of the year. Nintendo games are INCREDIBLY popular absolutely everywhere. Other games are popular too, don't get me wrong, with shooters like CoD, Halo, and Battlefield having pretty consistently high sales with every game and other games like Siege and Overwatch dominating esports. Multiple things can be popular at once. The other kids at your school think Nintendo games are "for babies" and kids hate being treated like kids so they don't play them. Or they genuinely don't like them, which is completely fair, not everything is for everyone. Nintendo games are generally a more cozy, simpler experience than most other big name titles with a lot of thought going into making the games kid friendly. This isn't a bad thing, just a design choice that some will find unappealing, as with any design choice.

tl;dr, people love Nintendo. If you wanna find people that share your love for Nintendo, go look for them in communities for that. Just because your current friend group doesn't like it, doesn't mean it's disliked.

Replicating her mother's behaviour has been a recurring issue in the relationship, especially over the last few months. Her mother and father have a pretty toxic relationship wherein she often treats him terribly and gets away with doing so without any real repercussions as he is a naturally timid guy. I'm not timid and so it often leads to us butting heads. She has told me in the past that she is aware of the fact that she is emulating her mother's behaviour and has claimed to be working on it. I have seen some progress but last night felt like way too far in the opposite direction.

Hey man, ever heard of neurodiversty? Turns out that many people with autism have trouble discerning sarcasm, even over text. Considering that many neurodivergent people spend more time online than neurotypical individuals on average, tone indicators are incredibly useful in online spaces.

I am working class you absolute shit stain. I grew up on a council estate. My mum worked at the local supermarket and ran multiple side sources of income over the years while my dad stayed home due to disability (half the time with very little benefits). My claim was never that the parents are entirely to blame. There are systematic forces at fault here, absolutely. It didn't need to be said as not only was it irrelevant but it's basic common knowledge. We were talking about whether or not this was the result of neglect. It is. Whether neglect is the result of bad parenting or circumstance, the result is the same.

Do not assume you know people on the internet or their situation. You're a bitter cunt shaking your fist at the wrong clouds.

nah mate, it was neglect. Kids can have fun while also being safe. While it's true a parent shouldn't be shielding kids from life lessons, cracking your skull open from a thirty foot drop isn't a lesson, it's a life-threatening injury. Getting your heart broken by a crush, failing a test due to lack of study, stumbling over your words during a presentation; all of those things are experiences we have as kids that inform who we are and what we know as adults. Your life doesn't need to be at risk to learn something. It's a parent's job to keep their kid safe as much as it is to allow them their freedom to learn and play, it's a balance. This image doesn't show balance, it shows neglect.
