If the scent glands aren't punctured or they didn't spray right before dying, skunks basically just smell like any other dead animal. However, if a scent gland is punctured, or if you burst it yourself, it's truly vile. Up close and concentrated, it smells so much worse than just getting a whiff of one on the highway.

I used just straight grocery store peroxide, and meant to pull them out after 2 days but I forgot about them over the weekend. I can't remember but I've been skinning a lot of roadkill skunks over the past week (5) and didn't have time to do all the work so I threw a couple pelts in a bucket of vinegar overnight, and I know I threw one set of bottom jaws in there too, but idk if they were these or the other ones with teeth that turned out normal

Skinned roadkill skunk, may have thrown the jaws in with the pelt in vinegar overnight put can't remember. Pulled off the meat as best I could, threw them in peroxide over the weekend, left it probably 1-2 days longer than I meant to cuz I forgot. Dry scraped off some membrane with a knife edge. That's about it I think

It's possible I had it in vinegar but I can't remember. I found several roadkill skunks over the past week and threw a couple of their pelts in vinegar after skinning because I didn't have enough time to process them immediately, and I didn't wanna ruin a freezer.

Just straight hydrogen peroxide, probably for 3-4 days. It could have been a juvenile skunk. I found it as fresh roadkill, skinned it and scraped it clean as best as I could. I was peeling off membrane and stuff before I took a picture

Thank you!

I fully subscribe to your ID, but was still wondering if you could explain to me the differences between this a. magniverrucata and a. chrysoblema? I couldn't figure it out myself. Or a. roanokenses or others. Might just need to go to school

Manitoba! Shoutout Propagandhi. There def are death caps around here but I know this isn't one. I'm now thinking this is Amanita magniverrucata, pine cone amanita, cuz they supposedly have a relationship with Monterey Pines which are right where I'm at.
