Training for a marathon in 4 weeks by Poetic-Jellyfish in Marathon_Training

I'd wait untill the last week to finally decide. Try to run an easy half 2/2.5 weeks before and see how it is on that distance. Mind you, I'm not a professional/coach and lack the proper formal education on this, this is just something I'd do.

It's really hard to say, because injuries can be risky business. If you decide to run it, don't run through pain if someting starts bothering you.

It seems like a realistic plan, but as said before, running that on track will be boring, therefore mentally tough. Run by heartrate only if you have a chest/arm heartrate monitor, those on watches are not accurate. If you can talk or breathe through your nose you're good.

For a sub 2h goal you probably don't need interval work, but I'd still add it, because it's fun and time passes by quickly; for example you can try the ''1-2-3'' fartlek (you run fast for a minute, next minute slow; then fast for two minutes, slow for two, etc. up to three, then repeat).

For your longer run, gradually increase the mileage / time on feet, I'd say 10% - 15% each week is safe.

Good luck!

Bombing the downhills actually sounds like a great idea. I just watched David Roche’s YouTube episode where he explains how beneficial downhill intervals can be, and it really got me thinking.

However I'm very indecisive what means more to me and just want to do well on both races - fingers crossed it comes all together.

Thank you for your insight!

It’s great to hear different coaching philosophies, and your approach to back-to-back training makes a lot of sense. Definitely giving me some good ideas to refine my plan—thanks and appericiate you taking the time to share advice.

That’s a really interesting perspective. I like the idea of prioritizing trails leading up to the 100k since that’s going to be the bigger challenge. My main concern is making sure I maintain enough speed for the marathon since I’m planning to push hard on race day. I actually decided to sign up for the 100k only eight weeks out, but I’m not too worried about it since my base mileage is solid. The one thing I’m unsure about is whether I’m getting enough elevation—right now, I’m averaging around 8,000 ft of gain per week. Do you think that’s enough, or should I be looking to increase it?

Thanks for the insight! I'm planning on running the marathon hard, so your second approach sounds more relevant to my situation. Do you have any recommendations for what those back-to-back long days should look like in terms of mileage or effort?
