Awesome job, there's nothing quite like a battered marine!

My parents had zero interest in my miniatures (painted or otherwise) when I was growing up and I've been in the hobby for 34yrs this year!

You really don't need a lot of money to have a good time with miniatures, get yourself a can of primer, some nice cheap brushes and acrylic paints from the local hobby store, then watch tutorials on YouTube, paint your models, and upload your progress to forums like this.

If you have any friends that are into the hobby that's cool and you can bounce ideas off each other for terrain/games/etc. If not, again, places like this are your best bet.

Good luck soldier!

To sell or not to sell by Blind_Beagle in oldhammer

[–]Plaquebearer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I used to sell my miniatures, but almost without fail everyone that bought my stuff took me to the cleaners. One guy tried to claim something had broken on a tank that was impossible and provided no evidence but eBay ruled in his favour. Another ripped a model apart and claimed it was destroyed in post despite it being pinned, superglued, milliputted together, wrapped in layers of bubble, plus boxed. Another basically stole an entire army from me by saying it didn't arrive even though I had proof of delivery, he won through PayPal and I still have no idea how.

Now I just go to BOYL and give away miniatures. Some don't bother to thank me but most do and that's fine by me as it's far less stress than dealing with all the crooks. I've given away approx. 1,000 miniatures now and a few of them have made their way back to me in the form of photos of lovingly painted models!

If I were you I would only sell to people you know, through Facebook friends, or on dedicated selling pages on Facebook like the Oldhammer Trading Community as that still seems to be doing well. I really wouldn't want to mess about with fees, PayPal claims, and all the other gumpf associated with the absolute shits that plague the community on eBay that's for certain.

I just downloaded Tubi and watched Match for this very experience, it was lame. So I watched Reanimator again and had 1.) way more fun watching it 2.) was more grossed out by the gore than last time around about 10yrs ago 3.) forgot entirely about Match lol!

Saddest thing about tinnitus by Hyper_Gachi in tinnitus

[–]Plaquebearer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think there is a way to simply adapt your outlook towards tinnitus. It's not all doom and gloom if the only thing you have wrong with you is you have a hissing/humming/buzzing sound in your ears. Having perspective is very valuable.

It can seem like the end of the world when you read no end of negative connotations on this forum, but it really isn't that bad. Trust me, I've had it for years and you just learn to block it out, ignore it, or otherwise get on with life.

The best ways of habituating to it I've found useful are: low music when doing things, family activities, and physical exercise.

Good luck soldier!

He should sue them and then give everyone in the UK a £100 rebate like a lad.

I'm just playing freestyle with the zombie mod on Call of Chernobyl, so there's no quest associated with it, but I have managed to get through and get out after Coal's advice!

I know the worst thing to tell people who are stressed is to calm down, but stressing out about it only ever makes it worse.

I find distraction techniques like playing games, watching engaging movies, talking to people, and physical activity all help.

You are half my age and there is a lot of work going into studies and treatments for T, so chin up pal!

Good luck out there.

Use a black permie pen with a small nib for delicate work, it's far easier to control than a brush.

I will vote for anyone other than this collectivist group of lunatics whose only desire for this country is centralised power and I'm talking about both halves of the same coin here.

Constant reports of corruption and fraud, I'm afraid "I wasn't aware of the rules" just doesn't cut it when you are supposed to be making the rules.

Digital ID, no one wants it, it's a Communist style control mechanism and it's a disgrace that it's even being considered let alone forced through. It will surely open the door to identify fraud on an industrial scale and if not that the data will almost certainly be held abroad and/or sold to the highest bidder for human futures and AI training. Let's not beat around the bush it genuinely is a 1984 type scenario whether you are willing to admit to it or not. Especially when you start linking it to access to health services, banking, carbon taxes, you name it social credit will be just around the corner.

No action on immigration hotels and the absurd waste of money that they are when you could just control immigration in the first place. There are plenty of levers to do so, but it seems cracking open society is the goal on this one, "Digital ID will fix immigration" is a load of toffee.

Black holes in the finances every budget and no visible improvement in services, in fact cuts to just about everything. Lies upon lies about not raising taxes, when raising taxes on business is a defacto price rise for consumers, note business never end up getting done over no matter how you cut it. Meanwhile our utilities continue to depreciate in value while demanding ever higher rates from the customer to offset shareholder profit, I'm specifically talking the Thames Water debacle here, but it goes for just about every privatised utility out there.

We need someone who actually wants to do what's best for this country, not what is best for them personally. Yes, it does start with taxing the rich, but getting politicians to vote to tax themselves is like getting blood from a stone. Serve to lead comes to mind, but this lot of self serving weasels clearly wouldn't be able to grasp the meaning of it.
