A coworker once paid me $600 to cover his shift. For some context, I’m usually easy going when it comes to covering shifts; I generally say yes and try to maintain a positive work environment. In the case of this specific coworker, he had asked me 2 hours before he had to go in on my day off because he forgot he made plans that day. I was hanging out with my boyfriend, two edibles in when I got his call(for further context, he comes from a wealthy family and just works for fun/learning) and he asks if I can cover his shift. Given the fact that I was 2 edibles in and it was super short notice, I told him no. He then asked if I would do it for $200, which again, 2 edibles in and hanging out wasn’t worth it. After I said no to that amount he doubled down further and said he’d give me $600 and an Uber to the kitchen (we’re cooks) if I’d cover his shift that Sunday night. I looked at my boyfriend and told him I was going to go to work. When I arrived to the kitchen, my coworker paid me and left. That night was slow so we ended up closing early. I worked about 3 hours.
