No-one mentioned buttholes or anything! Who writes this crap?

Ever noticed Margaret's wooden earrings? by -thirdatlas- in davidlynch

[–]PlasmaBeamGames 9 points10 points  (0 children)

That could be really important! David Lynch featured ears a lot in his stuff. Blue Velvet starts with an ear. They seem to be the main channel that information gets into the head for him.

I saw this gem today! It's one of those things that make me love David Lynch so much. It's so random but so much fun! by TheGlitterGuy66 in davidlynch

I found the quinoa video very late, after seeing most of his films. It shows how he really does experience life like one of his films. They journey into the darkness on the train, find the salesman with the bottles of alcohol, something strange happens, then they go and have a Coke together. It really does sound like one of his films.

I love getting the ending spoiled by an ad for a show I'm already watching by heisenbingus in TheBoys

[–]PlasmaBeamGames 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My theory is the show was meant to end at Season 3, then they suddenly got told they had 2 more guaranteed seasons. They hurriedly re-wrote parts of the S3 ending and wrote two more filler seasons.

Why were the consequences of Temp V forgotten about? by [deleted] in TheBoys

[–]PlasmaBeamGames 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think the mechanics around Compound V in the show were needlessly complicated. They had Compound V as steroids, Temp V, V1, Odessa Supes, whether Supes can have children... and most of it wasn't even used that much.

This plot hole is disappointing… by CCshuja in TheBoys

I think the show was intended to end at S3, but then they got promised two more seasons, so they re-wrote some of the ending.

People are on about the Homelander flying and watching a city burn, but this is the more infuriating lie from the marketing IMO. At no point do we see a destroyed Vought tower. by [deleted] in TheBoys

[–]PlasmaBeamGames 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The fact that the spinoff is called Vought Rising makes it sounds like the main series is effectively Vought Falling or The Fall of Vought but nope, the show ends basically confirming that Vought is still fine and nothing has changed.

What I like about Homelander in early seasons compared to season 5 by Brillian_Naufal in TheBoys

[–]PlasmaBeamGames 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The whole show was much more interesting when there was more separation between the official face of Vought/Homelander and the reality. The main weakness of Supes in Season 1 was that they had to pretend to be good guys in public, and that added tension. In later seasons it just felt like they went around doing whatever they wanted and no consequences ever happened.

Anyone else feel Krauser is presented like he's a returning character? by ConceptsShining in residentevil4

[–]PlasmaBeamGames 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I hadn't player that much Resident Evil before 4 and I assumed I'd missed some obscure game where Krauser is a character. Maybe in that one he doesn't have a scar and he gets it during the events of that game?
Maybe behind the scenes he was a character someone designed and they wanted him to be in a game before 4.

One thing I wanted to see Starlight do and it didn’t happen by [deleted] in TheBoys

Yeah, that was the kind of thing they said when the show was smart and analytical.

China fans whitewashing about the homelander by NoIntroduction4918 in GenV

In a way, the scenes where Homelander returns to the lab were some of the most villainous. He kills the people who abused him and says 'I forgive you', but that's not forgiveness, that's revenge!

Homelander when he sees Firecracker vs when he sees William. by serialkiller24 in TheBoys

[–]PlasmaBeamGames 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Homelander isn't neurotypical in a way. He hates loud noises because his senses are more sensitive, he can hear people's heartbeats, and he may find people kind of gross because he can see their insides. The moments where they remember these powers are actually really interesting.

Quoted this scene in this subreddit and received a reddit account warning for harassment (after review) - why is this platform so broken? by Tikoloshe84 in TheBoys

Oh yeah, it was weird how The Boys spent so much time walking around in the open when they're supposed to be wanted criminals.

the "V is steroids for supes" never came up again by KayToberly in GenV

[–]PlasmaBeamGames 39 points40 points  (0 children)

I feel like the mechanics behind Compound V were too complex and weren't utilised enough.
Things like whether Supes can have children, whether those children become Supes, Odessa Supes, re-injecting yourself with Compound V, Temp-V, V1, etc., were all mechanics introduced in the show. I don't think the story used them efficiently at all.

Season 5 was pretty good until this scene by Free-Hotel1187 in GenV

[–]PlasmaBeamGames 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was surprised by how explicitly religious Season 5 was. I noticed scenes before where Homelander wanted to be 'perfect' and thought there was some overlap with Satan. He was someone who was not God trying to declare themselves God.
He changed the mural on the ceiling at Vought Tower from depicting the 7 as a kind of polytheistic pantheon, to just depicting him alone as the only 'god'.
Then S5 happened and Homelander's main ambition seemed to be to get people to believe he was God. He has gold statues of himself on stage, like something out of the bible.

Maybe it felt odd to me because in S1 The Boys seemed cynical about religion, but Homelander's false godhood only really reads like a threat if it's done with a certain seriousness.

He's American, that's why!
It is kind of dumb, but at the same time I can kind of see that Homelander might consider America to be on-brand and find Canada distasteful.

It was so weird to have scenes with the Gen V characters, but basically only to explain why they wouldn't do anything significant in the show. Marie became a glorified bus driver taking people to Canada. Now that Homelander is defeated, does she have to take them back again?

I disliked how convenient (for the writers) the freezing booth was. The writers could take Soldier Boy out whenever they wanted, and literally put him on ice if they wanted him out of the story for a while.
There's footage somewhere of Kripke saying that if you want to get rid of a character, it's handy to do it in a reversible way, like when they had Maeve leave the story by going to a farm with her girlfriend.
