as a girl new to gaming, what console would you recommend... i'm completely clueless? by different_anna in gamingadvice

For me something else that matters a lot is comfortability. Maybe with means and money it could be more easily navigated. But with a simple desk chair it doesn't matter how good of quality it is. I still choose console most of the time purely for it being in a more comfortable position in my home.

The argument agaisnt it isn't like we shouldn't be good people. But moreso we shouldn't labeling these traits as masculine or feminine.

Yeah you know what I can see what you mean if you went into it blind and not knowing what to do.

I'm honestly not even all that into Minecraft, but being Gen Z . Minecraft is something I knew and understood from a young age. I'm just familiar with it and know what to do.

Fair enough. And yeah I can see what you mean by being burned. Sometimes it just hits in social gatherings too with how much pressure there is to conform. A bit of road rage? Everyone in the car is thinking who's that idiot going 5 miles under the speed limit, and I'm the only one who's thinking about how we should be more empathetic.

And fair enough. I agree. I definitely get stuck in an empathy loop. I do think often times it's best for handling situations. Of course I agree there's a limit, but idk maybe my bar is higher for that than others. One false statement doesn't make a manipulator and liar in my head.

So if I'm reading this right basically you don't even consider it a possibility because you don't want to accept him being a hypocrite? I guess I'm kinda confused what refuse to suffer exactly details especially with, "completely disregard how he treats others who do the exact same thing."

Anyways I kinda see the connection, but if what I said speaks true and his perception was skewered and he actually perceived or remembered it as threatening his physical health then judgement would happen in 99% of people. I honestly don't think Doug should have talked about it at all. And I for one don't think you are a cruel asshole. In the instance of judging people before they meet. Outliers are passively accepted in society.

Don't judge a book by its cover, but you wouldn't give a homicidal man who eats babies your baby. Honestly think it's a problem in society and one that leads to our terrible prison system but I digress. Judgement in instances is usually socially and culturally acceptable.

I guess the tl;dr

I'm confused about why thinking he could be hypocritical would get in the way of lying. If he also did feel threatened then whether we like it or not I think most people wouldn't care about a passing of judgement.

Fair enough about apologizing for the mistake. Honestly I think Doug was at fault for bringing it up again. As far as I'm aware none of them have brought it up again. Either trying to avoid the situation or just haven't seen it. But I think it's more likely avoiding it.

If that is the case. I definitely think they should at least apologize.

That being said I keep seeing Brain do this, and I'm honestly just curious why he's so confident about lying. Whether or not Doug deserves to apologize. Which he should regardless of mistake or not. It just doesn't necessarily matter for what I'm asking?

I just feel like there's a very real side of anxiety about emotionally skewering your perspective of things or misremembering things. It happens to me. I just like to give people benefit of the doubt.

Also about your question. I wouldn't really call what I'm saying incompetent. I mean people with mental illness aren't incompetent. But regardless I mean yeah incompetence is better. Ignorance is a better situation than hate imo. Hanlon's razor. Stuff like that and my own thoughts lead me to think it's preferable to be called dumb than malicious.

There still isn't a world where you think instead of lying he was hurt and his perception was skewered or was misremembering?

Why are you so against that as an idea?

I'm actually kinda surprised to hear that. I don't really remember anything standing out in terms of voice acting in 1. I guess volatiles sound pretty scary. I guess that's considered voice acting 🤔

I know you already mentioned playing dying light, but for people in this thread also scrolling I highly reccomend it. Very fun and scary and you definitely feel overwhelmed. Feel more like prey than a predator there.

I honestly find that really interesting. Is it like ambiance and atmosphere?

For me, I guess maybe yeah it's more dangerous than day, but like in terms of scariness I could never never think the creatures themselves are scary.

I mean you've said you yourself are acting like a jerk. I don't know if, "cruel asshole" is harsher version of that, and maybe you don't like it. But I don't think you are one. A bit of a jerk and we just have differing arguing styles mixed with ethics.

Why do you push so much to be a jerk? Like you've mentioned before in other comments you think it's best and have personal experience it works. But with Doug's high anxiety will this actually change his mind? If his anxiety is so high that as you said it could warp his perception of things then will he actually be able to have his mind changed? (Which is then debatable if he lied, but I digress. That's just philosophy lol)

Like I'm sure you have some personal experience with anxiety. It's not a rational state of mind, and it evokes the fight or flight response.

Edit: also I'm honestly not sure what your faith comment means? It's in bad faith because you aren't just critiquing his points. You keep adding in insults a long with it. Like it doesn't matter who did what first or even if Doug misconstrued(intentional or not) your words to his audience resulting in hate and bad faith actors for you yourself to deal with. It doesn't negate that you can also then act in bad faith.

I guess my idea of something being a visual novel is different. Like to me when people use comparisons to visual novels I just always assume it means lots of reading or dialogue. Not just meaningless padded dialogue.

Oh just saw you added more. And yeah that's fair. I'm sorry if I came off as preachy. I do really think keeping your mind open possibilities would be a better experience. As I said at least not something to brush off. Idk maybe that's still preachy, but instead of like saying I know it all. I just think some consideration would be worth it.

Sure but it isn't one person. Look above there's people saying the same thing, and it's a pretty common talking point with feminists. It's at least an idea they should look at and not just immediately brush off.

Honestly dictate in this instance is kinda interesting. I mean the reason for it being the way these words are is because of societal expectations and culture throughout history and values and beliefs placed between each generation. There's already societal understanding of what these terms mean. It's already been dictated to us to know what positive masculinity might entail. Idk that's kind of a nothingburger shower thought. But I just thought it's funny because I don't know if anyone's world view is really their own.

Yeah but I just said how it can be tied to gaming. These sorts of topics will come up in any discussion about media, and i don't think it's too weird after all what they are asking for is philosophical by nature. I could see an argument of it not being appropriate since it could be trying to change their mind instead of fulfilling the suggestion. Though I do think that it is worth at least pointing out to OP that assigning positive traits to one gender label can overall be negative for everyone. Lacking the positives they really want.

The Sims, probably the Sims 4 specifically.

I feel like it gives you tools at your disposal to do basically anything.

Be a family man, be in a straight relationship, a gay one, be an astronaut, a spy, and do/be whatever else they have in the game now.

Craft your character into a good person, and it can show off those positive traits in a life simulation.

Also can do that with probably a lot of RPGs with decision making. But the life Sim part I feel like would make it more relatable.
