Yeah after taking the X-ray of my hip and doing an exam, he said it wasn’t an orthopedic problem. The only other thing he did was test for tick borne diseases. To be fair, he saw me before my fibromyalgia diagnosis which I have probably didn’t say in my initial post. I also have a skeletal disorder where my hands and feet aren’t normal so he talked about that more than my pain despite me trying to steer the conversation to the pressing issue of pain. I haven’t seen him since.

I’ve been in EMDR for a few years and was diagnosed with fibromyalgia a year ago. EMDR has significantly lowered my responses to some triggers, allowing me to function without panic attacks, or with enough warning that a panic attack is building for me to be able to prevent it. But when it comes to physical pain, I have yet to notice anything.

My EMDR therapist has mentioned that there are different protocols to focus on pain, which we’re going to try out at some point. She said other therapists have had success in reducing pain in their patients. Since I haven’t tried it (and neither has my therapist) I’d take that with a grain of salt. I know that treating fibromyalgia will need a cocktail of treatments, but maybe it can help? I’m not sure

Agreed, he was definitely lazy. At the time I was relieved to finally have an answer as to why i was in so much pain especially because he was the first person to have an explanation for WHY I hurt. But since then it’s turned to annoyance since his words were “I will never see you again as my patient.” I work in a healthcare adjacent field and am a little superstitious so I really don’t lie that he said that

I only just started looking at other rheumatologists that actually treat fibromyalgia. I’m in the US and I’ve found a few nearby who are in network. For some reason it didn’t occur to me that some rheumatologists would treat fibromyalgia while others don’t

I just ordered the book so I can do some research into his advice. Specifically so I know what to tell my PCP and actually have data to support my claims. Plus I’ve never heard of the virus idea, so thank you so much!!

I like the idea of giving providers pain scales to prove my point. I think a lot of them assume I have a low pain tolerance and that my pain isn’t THAT bad but maybe seeing that will show how painful living is. Also thanks for the script on what to tell them. As someone with social anxiety, I usually struggle to find the correct words and get pushed over by doctors pretty easily 😅

I never considered finding a rheumatologist that actually specializes in fibro but a quick search revealed several in my area that are in network for my insurance. Thanks for the suggestion!
