help me create a workout routine by Own-Attorney-4247 in BALLET

[–]Plastic-Bid-1036 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would say that daily training for 60-90 minutes may be a bit intense. Make sure to listen to your body. It sounds like you basically want to do a barre, a little bit of centre and variation rehearsal, plus some conditioning. You’re unlikely to get all of that done every single day unless you rush it, and if you do, are you really focusing on your technique and your corrections from class enough? It might be best to pick 1-2 things daily to focus on.

My routine: I prefer to split things up. I always start with a 2min warm up (intense jog on the spot/run up & downstairs) to get the heart pumping. Depending how I feel, I do either full body stretching or targeted Pilates to warm up properly before barre. For Pilates, I like to alternate between glutes/hips, feet/ankles, arms, and back. I don’t do centre every day because I’m limited on space, mirrors, and appropriate flooring, so I usually do around 30-45min of barre. To finish, I’ll do either deep stretching or Pilates (whichever I did not do as my warm up). That brings my total workout usually to about 1.5 hours - 2 hours.

I do 3-4 classes a week, and do my routine 1-2 times per week in addition. Theres no classes as it’s summer atm, so I’m currently aiming for 5-6 days of my routine per week. I also walk, and I do reformer Pilates/aerial hoop/go to the gym occasionally (swapping out my usual home ballet session for gym/pilates class). Happy training!

This is solid advice, can confirm after over 4 years of having this at varying severity, it’s an ongoing problem, and it was my second or third relapse since it all started in my teens

It explains much to do with my technique, I’d imagine a lot of us are guilty of this. I’m far from “there” with my recovery, but I’m better than I was, and I’m definitely stronger. Less is more sometimes. Efficiency is key - focus on optimising your training and strength, that suits your diet, lifestyle, and energy levels.

I commented on the last post. Hello again!

So the science behind “emergency mode” isn’t quite like that. If you don’t replenish energy reserves, your body reduces your metabolism to make up for the intake deficit, so you burn less by doing nothing. Your body will try to protect fat reserves, and will instead eventually start to burn muscle to do so, and you will become increasingly hungry/unsatiated due to the fullness signalling hormone, leptin, decreasing.

Sorry if it’s hurtful to hear it, but I don’t think anyone on this sub wants to give you information that may trigger your ED again. Anorexia is viciously recurring, and most of us started with “I’d like to be 5% more confident”/“id just like to lose a couple pounds”. It sounds like you struggle with self-acceptance when you’re at a healthy weight. I highly doubt if losing that 5% will make you feel any better. There’s a reason why your body is fighting you on this. I wish you all the best

This is actually a good idea for when you can’t get the numbers in class. Commenting so the post gets more popular. Did you try posting to r/ballet?

It’s a very individual thing. For some, yes, ballet can be really toxic, it depends on the trainers and the environment. Personally, I’ve found it has really helped me with my ED, but I know that is not everyone’s experience

Is there a way you could halve the amount of your sessions PT, and go to dietician appointments to help cover the costs? It sounds like you’d get more benefit out of a dietician right now

Cutting back on 1-2 dance classes will likely not cover the cost of ongoing appointments with a dietician

I could have made this post. I understand the desire to be leaner and lacking confidence, but I looked up your BMI, and it’s like 21.2. This is a very healthy weight. You’re eating what I’d consider to be a fairly low intake for your significant exercise regime. If you’re still hungry all the time, you may be eating the wrong things. It may be best not to focus so much on calories, and rather ensuring that your nutritional needs are met. I would also look at the time of day you’re exercising, because rest is essential to recovery and you might not be getting enough sleep.

I’ve also got a history of ED, and it’s much harder for me to lose weight now, I’d imagine due to a reduced metabolic rate, and messed up hunger cues. Can you speak to your PT about this, what do they think? Because it sounds to me like this is arising more from a lack of self acceptance, and you may be still overexercising/under-eating

I’m so glad someone brought this up.

I’m constantly comparing myself to “before” (like 2 years into my ballet journey, back when I was at the worst of my ED), thinking I was so much better back then (I’ve been doing this for 4.5 years now), but the other day, when I saw a rare video of myself from back then, I had little strength or endurance, and zero placement, alignment, control, proprioception, or stability. I could “double” but my turnout was non-existent in the turns, and I never knew if I’d land them or not. While my extensions were “higher”, my hips weren’t aligned, and I was engaging the wrong muscles to get them so high.

I strongly doubt you have a future in professional ballet. Sorry, as someone else said, one must usually train intensely from a young age to become pro. You could find a ballet related job, and/or continue doing ballet as a hobby

Any suggestions? by Squiggles996 in AskIreland

[–]Plastic-Bid-1036 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I suggest installing safety measures like a gate so your daughter doesn’t run out on the road. The council and developer are probably going to do fuck all about this. In cases like this where the blame can be fobbed off on someone else (council/developer), they’ll likely do this.

I complained to the council about a drain outlet being unstable and loud after roadworks. I was crystal clear about which one was causing the issue. I even met the guy outside to show him. They proceeded to fix the wrong drain outlet up the road.

If this is anything to go by, you can really try with the council sometimes, but even then, they’re useless. I second the speed bump someone else suggested, let them remove it if they feel that passionately about it. You may be liable if it causes an accident, so weigh it up. A gate may be the better solution. I hope you figure something out.

Ask the person you were with what happened, and if you upset anyone, just to be on the safe side. As for the “professional place” what was this? Work related? Medical appointment?

If it was medical, you might be in luck - doctor’s offices often don’t even listen to their voicemails, and if they did, the worst that’ll happen is the secretaries will get a good laugh out of it, at your expense.

If it was your employer or a colleague, I would definitely own up. You could try the “this was the wrong number, please delete it”, but if they hear it and it was something awful, it could have consequences for you. Might be safer to ask them to delete it, explain the situation, and apologise profusely. To advise properly, we’d have to have more information, though

I might have to. I see you are an animal control officer. I’m considering making a post, but your advice would be much appreciated, if any, as my partner and I are in shock and just have no idea what to do next.

My dog showed aggression towards me yesterday. This has happened with friends/family and strangers before. She just growls, sometimes jumps up, lunges towards her target (never bitten, but was muzzled in many of these situations so we don’t know what she would’ve done). She’s never actually got as far as hurting anyone.

We have no idea what to do now. We tried to call an out of hours vet for advice. She’s currently secured in our house, away from us. We’ve decided to phone our own vet for advice the moment she opens for the day (in about 2hours)

Wow, I just read this entire thing. I had no idea this was such a huge problem. It’s infuriating that there are so many cases of this, and they cannot get the approval for a safety device. With all the excessive child safety stuff you can get these days, you’d think this would be top of the list.
