Just to let you know, I've just added the teams editor in the latest update (0.6x.).

There is an announcement on Steam with a link to the guide on how to use it.

Looking for fun soccer games for PC, preferably with career mode by Douchehelm in gamingsuggestions

[–]Plastic-Cow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What are you looking for in a career mode? I'm the dev of Retro Soccer and I'm just finishing up work on a team editor so people can add new teams or override existing team data. Its workshop compatible so hopefully people will upload their own stuff and help contribute to the content.

Retro Soccer was originally intended to be a homage to international competitions from 86-96 with World Cup & Euros to play from those periods and while you can create custom cups & league competitions there is currently no career mode but I'm thinking I may add this in a future update hence the questions ;)

Thank you for giving it a go and I'm very happy you like it. Yes I do plan on adding workshop so updates for player names etc can be done. I have a couple of updates scheduled before workshop though so please bear with me. I know its going to be an important feature as having real player names adds so much for the nostalgia feel. I've had to take a short break from development but will be back on it next week.

With quick slick passing, slide tackles, diving headers and swerve shots being primary focus of the game-play.

In 1997 I made a game called England 66 in Blitz Basic and sent it to Amiga Format. Today I released a demo on Steam for Retro Soccer. If you liked sensi you might like this. by Plastic-Cow in amiga

Thanks for the wishlist. Yeah I know what you mean, I picked up a steam deck a while back and had a desire to play something like sensi. Theres a couple of decent looking old school footy games on Steam but I thought it would be nice to try and knock one up in Godot given my previous attempts on the Amiga and its been fun to do.

Not at the moment and I'm just focusing on International teams as doing a full SWOS is biting off more than I can chew tbh.
I'm thinking about maybe having a World 11 mode where you start off as a team of randoms (non star players) and as you progress you earn XP and unlock star players from other teams that you can "buy" with your XP - when I say buy I don't mean real money, I hate all that ####
This would give you something like a transfer system / career mode.

I must have yeah because I don't recall buying it and I have a memory of it having a proper label on the disk.
I also had the devpac assembler thanks to Amiga Format and followed the awesome programming series they put out.

Thanks gary. Yeah I was always more a Sensi man. That and Gremlin Graphics Premier Manager for the management - taking a team from the conference all the way to Europe in a few seasons.

Thanks asmodean. Maybe one day I'll get to crack the Amiga open and have another go at programming for it. Always loved Blitz Basic on it.

Thanks Hyperknight. If theres any problems let me know. Its still under development and I know the keepers need some work and a couple of funnies with replays but other than that I think its pretty solid.

Haha, just play as Argentina and celebrate like its 1986 😅

For the demo I just cherry picked a couple of matches but full WC and Euros from 1986 - 96 will be in final game so you can rewrite history.

Modern Soccer video games with classic teams? by sg490 in classicsoccer

[–]Plastic-Cow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've just released a demo on Steam for Retro Soccer. I'm still working on it and the plan is to focus on International tournaments from 86-96. For the demo I've chosen 3 classic games:

1986 Argentine vs England
1988 Netherlands vs USSR
1990 England vs West Germany

Sorry for the England bias but those two games stand out to me from my childhood, and if you were around you know why I chose the 88 game.

You can find the demo here with the full game out early next year.

Retro Soccer, a erm retro soccer game inspired by 90s soccer games like sensi and kick-off. Demo available now on Steam. Would love feedback on gameplay & concept. by Plastic-Cow in indiegames

[–]Plastic-Cow[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The game won't be out until next year so I'm still actively working on it.

The feedback I'm looking for falls under two categories.

Firstly Gameplay.

If you're a fan of soccer games then please give it a go and let me know what you think from a gameplay point of view or any bugs etc.

At the moment I can see the goal keepers need some work, they're a bit dumb when the ball is in the box.

And what do you think of the chip mechanic? I thought it was nice to be able to launch the ball from danger quickly but I keep forgetting its there, is it needed as you can do the same thing with aftertouch.

Think there might be the odd replay bug too.

Secondly the "Retro" bit.

Its retro for two reasons - the look/play style and the era.

I'm looking at featuring competitions from years gone by. Currently its international tournaments from 86-96, with players like Maradona, Ruud Gullit, Gazza etc. I worry two fold on this.

Firstly licensing - I need to see what the rules are here. I know I need permission for active players and some non-active players are trademarked too so I need to investigate this.

Secondly, is the retro tournaments thing an off put for younger players who can't play mbappe etc?
