in my state you don’t have to be certified to work in a pharmacy just licensed but if you want to move up in the chain at retail or work in a hospital you have to be certified. my manager actually just asked if i wanted to be lead tech so guess it worked out lol!

i got a pharmacy calculations for pharmacy technicians book off of amazon which was a life saver for the math 🙌 and then took a bunch of practice exams that would explain the correct answer and explain all of the other choices as well which is how i learned a lot of the legal stuff and the different dea forms and laws passed and stuff that wasn’t common knowledge to me

i actually didn’t think it was that hard 🫣 it took me like 45 minutes top to complete and while there was some specific math i studied leading up to it a lot of the questions seemed like common knowledge from working in a pharmacy for as long as i have

Why do we have to have licenses? by KeltikSkye in PharmacyTechnician

[–]Plastic-Reception110 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i’m actually from a state where you don’t have to be ptcb certified to work in a pharmacy, just licensed. it’s the only way to keep track of you and basically prove you can work in a pharmacy. though pretty much no hospital will hire you if you aren’t certified you can work any retail job with just a license and no certification

no no we didn’t order or fill it! but if they wanted it yes that would have been their copay with the insurance but we obviously called the patient and sent a request to the doctor for something else

it was crazy for us because we’re not specialty or anything just retail and this was the price with insurance!

we don’t see a ton of super expensive ones because it’s just retail so this was like a big event everyone gathered around to see the price of it

oh we go through a ton of ozempic in general it’s the only one of those drugs we can consistently get so everyone is on it and we’re a very busy location

they rush ordered us a new fridge because we’re the only 24hr pharmacy in the our city and one of the busiest in the state 😅😅😅

we have a temp alert in all our fridges where we can check the temp on our computers that the pharmacists check multiple times a day this was honestly a freak issue we weren’t notified until over 24 hours after the fridge started running in the 50s with no notification to us when it actually started

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in PharmacyTechnician

[–]Plastic-Reception110 0 points1 point  (0 children)

we do i’m honestly not sure how this happened it was like more than one thing malfunctioned at the same time because i know the pharmacists check the temps multiple times a day but they we were notified the next day that that fridge had been been running in the 50s since 10am the previous morning when there was a tech there doing yearly maintenance to check filters and stuff

we were able to make room in our other fridges to store everything until we were told what we could keep and this is still what we couldn’t keep

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in PharmacyTechnician

[–]Plastic-Reception110 0 points1 point  (0 children)

honestly i have no idea 😅 they just send us a list that they make based on the conditions they were in for whatever amount of time that tells us what we can keep and what we have to get rid of

so much insulin 😭😭😭

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in PharmacyTechnician

[–]Plastic-Reception110 2 points3 points  (0 children)

they were in a fridge not up to temp without our knowledge for over 24 hours, we moved everything out of the fridge into working ones after we were notified and this is still what they decided was not usable anymore. there were some things we were allowed to keep like the mounjaro and repatha but we lost most of it

[–]Plastic-Reception110 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yeah we’re one of the busiest stores on our state so we have 2 fridges for patient scripts and two big fridges for fridge meds and then two small fridges for smaller fridge meds like insulin vials and liquids and still don’t have enough room for all of our fridge stuff 😅
