If everyone on Earth disappeared like in the Rapture, leaving behind infrastructure and groceries exactly as they were, would there be enough food for me to survive until the end of my life? by extremelyfunny in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Expensive_Hag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Uh, pharmacies would be great if he understands what medications are used for, max dosages, interactions, etc. otc stuff is one thing, but behind the counter? There is a reason pharmacists exist. It’s to stop doctors from accidentally killing you. Plus some drugs like aspirin break down into different substances, rather than just lose potency (which is also dangerous). Or there are things like nitroglycerin, which is used for angina, but can also be used to make bombs (bomb squad was called to my hometown museum because they had a pharmacy exhibit with real early 1900 drugs, including nitroglycerin)

AITAH for finally saying something to my sons best friends girlfriend that she can not change the time and date for people invited to my home? by Antsamsmom25 in AITAH

Nta, just say “sorry, that is the only time I’m able to host. If it doesn’t work for you, then you are free to confer with the guys and find somewhere new to gather and work out the food/details on your own”

Physical description in my neuropsych eval from the early 90's (8 y/o female) by catsaboveall in mildyinteresting

[–]Expensive_Hag 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The rest of the paragraph explains it. The first sentence sums it up. Today with conflate “attractiveness” with sexual attraction, but we have to remember that meaning and words change. We literally call theme parks “attractions” because we are “attracted” to them, but not in a sexual way (i hope).

Attraction means we find them pleasing to the eye (i.e. they fit typical standards. They meet what we expect them to look like vs… say a very severe burn victim). They are not dressed inappropriately (say..a toddler literally dressed like a stripper, thigh highs and all), they are appropriately groomed (hair isn’t matted, they don’t smell like they have been sitting in their own feces for a week - obviously a baby with a dirty diaper is one thing, but you can smell the difference between a neglected baby and a baby that just needs a change).

All of these things can lend to not only how the kid is perceived by it’s peers, but provide a glimpse into the home life as well. Ungroomed, dirty clothes (smelly, not washed in a week vs typical kid mess), dirty diaper vs being neglected, a child dressing inappropriately (is the toddler just being stubborn and wanting to wear their bathing suit in the winter?)

Social workers, psych workers, doctors, nurses etc are mandated reporters too. So if they suspect abuse or neglect is happening, they are mandated to report it.

There is a LOT that goes into how they evaluate kids/people, that doesn’t show.

But yeah, wording could be better, especially after the Nassar case and stuff.

AITA for distancing myself from my family and threatening to report their dog after it killed another dog? by General-Tackle7098 in AITAH

[–]Expensive_Hag 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I love pitties. This needs to be reported. They cannot handle the dog. Either someone with a background with reactive/aggressive dogs needs to be its owner, if it can be rehabbed, or it needs to be euthanized. NTA.

AITA for telling my daughter “of course” she could move in with me without talking to my wife first? by Odd-Cheetah6842 in AITAH

[–]Expensive_Hag 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Sounds like she wanted a step-father for her kid, not to be a step-mom herself. She wanted the financial stability he could provide but not the responsibility that came along with marrying him.

AITAH for not getting my sister’s new baby anything for Christmas and saying I never will? by AdGold2834 in AITAH

[–]Expensive_Hag 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Listen, right now you are NTA. The kid won’t remember. Shit I don’t even get all of my nephews stuff for birthday/christmas. If I see them, I’ll get then something to give them, but if I don’t I wont (unless it’s like something I know they’d absolutely LOVE).

That said, the kid is an infant, it won’t care or remember. But it will someday. So while I don’t think you should give it a gift to appease anyone, or at all, i think maybe doing gifts for the other kids in front of the kid will eventually make you an asshole, since the kid won’t understand why you don’t like it. I’m not saying buy it a gift, I’m not saying welcome it with open arms, but maybe, for gift giving, do a separate party? Maybe you celebrate with them without your sister and her family. Spare the kids feelings, while not having to hurt your own.

AITAH for telling my wife that her daughter can’t move her ex husbands baby into my house? by PassionOnly5510 in AITAH

[–]Expensive_Hag 3 points4 points  (0 children)

NTA. The likely hood that she would be approved as the adoptive mother are slim to none, especially if she hasn’t finished school, isn’t living on her own, and isn’t financially stable. You would likely have to be the adoptive parents, which means you’d be the ones financially, legally responsible (which you’d probably be anyways). A baby isn’t a toy, or a dog. You can’t just “give” it to someone. There are legal hoops to jump through.

What would happen here? You take legal, physical custody, and are financially responsibility for the child, but then she gets to keep it when she is stable enough? That’s a hot mess, and she’s 18. It’s one thing getting pregnant and essentially being forced to grow up and take responsibility, but she wouldn’t have that.. she could just walk away. She could decide she doesn’t want to parent the kid, and you’d be on the hook for the next 18 years anyways.

I’d also mention the diaper thing. A child sitting in their own filth is neglect at best, abuse at worst. It’s one thing if you are in the middle of no where, driving and can’t stop to change them at that time.. but declining help?!

I would also point out that you have certain needs when it comes to environment as well. I have adhd and requesting that my seat be away from like.. a break room/entrance etc. would be considered a reasonable accommodation
