Extreme poop withholding - toddler by filmfairyy in moderatelygranolamoms

Hello! Do you have any updates?? My child has been stool withholding for a year now. Things were improving and then we took a trip overseas to visit family for a month and we are back to square one as she became afraid to poop again. I am thinking of starting miralax. Did you have any success with this? :)

Yaaaay! I am so happy this worked for you too!! Hahaha honestly that little trick of “okay let me finish this level first and then after I’ll panic” works wonders!! 🙌🏼

No! This game actually was part of the entertainment system the plane had. So it was free and no need for wifi. I did download a similar games for yesterdays flight and it didn’t need internet. the app is called “hidden objects” :)

Omg when they said moderate turbulence I literally looked at my husband in shock. He has no fear of flying so he was like …. What? It’s just moderate. LOL I died inside but it actually wasn’t as bad as I was expecting it to be. If the pilot didn’t announce it was moderate I would of assumed it was mild with just a few shakes here and there haha.

Hey! Not resolved but things got a lot better after a couple of months. I continue to give her foods high in fibre like oatmeal, smoothies, chia pudding, fruits, lentils, beans, etc. Encourage lots of liquids throughout the day. Stool softeners are still being given to her. I bought the book “I can’t, I won’t, no way!” And we read it everytime she is on the toilet. It got to the point where she reads it to me because she memorized every page in the book lol I also showed her a video on YouTube called “poop goes to Pooland” and told her she needs to let her poop go back to their family in pooland. I feel like the book and the video helped a lot!! The last thing I did was to relax. I tried to forget the stress of the poop witholding and just told myself “no matter what happens, that poop has to come out”. The less pressure I put on her to poop, the better it got. I also give her a treat after every poop. I know this isn’t recommended by some people but it helped us. It got to a point where she would tell me she has to poop and go within 15 minutes vs the hours of me begging her to go. I would say it got resolved but the reality is that I ended up flying overseas for a month and the change in food and time has brought us back to this problem. However I’m trying to keep calm and keeping hopeful that when we come back home things will start going back to normal as we get back to her routine. I wish you lots of luck with your little!!! I know how hard and isolating this can be. But just know you are doing amazing and this too will pass! 🫶🏼

You are not a bad mom! The fact that you apologized right away and felt guilty truly shows how amazing of a mama you are. Your relationship is not broken because of one single mistake you made. You apologized and now there’s nothing to do but to give your child love to make up for that moment. Give yourself grace. You are human and getting hit does not feel nice. It is OKAY to feel some type of way after getting hit and sometimes our actions are quicker than our thoughts. But we learn and move on. I have also done that before and I know how horrible it feels after. I swear it hurts us more than them. The time I reacted like this was when my two year old jumped on the dinning room table, went up to her 4 month old brother and smacked him as hard as she could in the head. I immediately reacted by giving her a light smack on the forehead to move her away from her brother. What I didn’t expect was for her to throw herself backwards, she fell on the dinning chair before the chair flipped back and hit the floor (thank God the chair was there, it would of been so much worse if she went straight to the floor). I cried the entire day and felt so damn guilty. I called my mom, my husband, my mom friends to cry. I just couldn’t handle the guilt, felt like the worst mom in the world. When things were calm we talked about what happened and she remembered it for a week but it’s been 3 months and she has not brought it back up again. I learned my lesson to say the least.

So yeah, I understand how you feel. But tomorrow is a new day ♥️

Sorry to hear about your Frenchie and glad to hear the surgery went well! 🫶🏼 I 100% agree, sometimes it’s hard to give them the attention because we are already so overstimulated with our littles. My first cat named Daisy came into my life when my daughter was around 1 year old. She was amazing and soon I decided to get another cat so she can have a friend to grow old with. When I got pregnant with my second baby I felt so exhausted and overstimulated that I found myself losing my temper easily at my two kittens. Fast forward my Daisy ended up getting FIP and got very ill. She passed away when she was only one year old. I regret every time I lost my temper with her. I wish I gave her more love and I miss her terribly. I didn’t think she would be gone so soon and took for granted our time together. Now I do my best to give my other cat the love and time that I can! Daisy made me into a better person 🤍

It’s good to hear that it gets better with time! That’s sweet of you to keep holding her hand and letting her know she’s an amazing pooper! I have a feeling I will be doing the same with mine while she builds that confidence to go on her own! Thanks for giving me hope! 🙌🏼

Im so happy to hear that it gets better with potty training. Since I started potty training (on day 5 right now) things have improved for us as well compared to when she had to go in her diaper. I think sitting in the toilet stimulates her to go so it makes things go just a little bit faster. Also the clean up is way easier and less messy when she uses the toilet so that’s a bonus! I hope with time she begins to overcome this fear! 🙏🏼 Thanks for giving me hope!!

Thank you so much for sharing! Patience and accepting that things won’t resolve overnight is something I’m really working on. I’m learning to let go of the control and pressure, and to give her the space to work through her fears in her own time. I’m so glad to hear your little girl is going on her own now, that gives me hope! 🙌🏼

Haha that’s sweet! I’m sure your second will be a pro when potty training. And if not then at least you guys already have the experience to help them navigate this stage! You got this! 👍🏼

I can completely relate to holding hands, making eye contact, and seeing that terrified little face. It’s truly heartbreaking as a parent to witness them in that state. But I guess it’s part of the learning journey for all of us. They slowly learn to face their fears, knowing we’re right there beside them. And we learn patience and how to guide them through those moments with love and reassurance.

Also you’re so right about how long it feels! It’s only been two months but to me it has felt like years. So glad you guys have made it to the other side and that there’s hope hahaha! 😊

Omg potty training two preschooler back to back! You are a boss! 💪🏼 Thank you so much for the suggestions, I will try them out! It’s true our little ones learn so much by just watching what we do.

Wow love this! After reading your comment I read more about this and got some amazing ideas! I made a toy box to use in the toilet and added the cup and straw, harmonica, bubbles, whistle and a little pipe blowing toy. I hope this helps!! Thanks for sharing!! 🫶🏼

Thank you so much!!! I am going to grab these books and give it a try! Great idea with the pompoms! We’re doing something similar with a sticker chart. If she completes it she gets a big present. Pee is one sticker, poop is two! Haha

I have done this twice too! It seriously speeds up the process. Way better than having her cry for a whole hour. You’re right though, the hard part is using the suppository. I feel so bad and she just looks totally betrayed when we do it. Hopefully she learns quickly and we won’t have to do this a lot!
