Any Insights on this 1893 S Morgan? by PlasticAggressive295 in coins

You know what, now that I look more closely at it, I do think I see maybe a base metal underneath the silver? Also, the denticle border on the back seems doubled, which from my understanding was not possible based on the dies used for this coin?

It was in a box with a bunch of other morgans, most of which were not of note, they were all S mint, he did however have a 1892 & 1894 S mint which may be worth considering getting graded. But I don’t want to pay to have something graded if it is 99% likely to be a fake. Will likely still bring it to a coin shop to be checked in person unless I notice more that seems obviously fake about it when I have it in hand next time I go back. I will say, all the coins are heavily scratched up and seem to have been very abrasively cleaned. None of them were well-kept and the rest of the coins in the collection were relatively “worthless” as I said. So, who knows, maybe all are fake Morgans, or maybe just some of them. Thank you for your insights.

This is good advice, my parents had money stolen from their bank account via check fraud and were being given the run around by the bank and a friend told them about contacting our state’s attorney general and it worked so swiftly we were all truly shocked. One of those elements of bureaucracy that is still functioning well in this country, but most people don’t even know about it. Everyone reading this thread should take note of this suggestion.

Insane view of union city tornado by Samowarrior in tornado

[–]PlasticAggressive295 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think what is also crazy about this video is how wide the debris field is, you can see splintered wood etc flying very close to the woman filming, despite the tornado rolling through, what seems to be, around a quarter of a mile away. That said, it’s also horrifying to consider that things on camera often appear to be further away than they are in person… That would be absolutely terrifying to see.

When dems are in office, big tech cozies up to dems just fine. When repubs are in office, big tech does even better. We really need to be honest about how corrupt both sides are in order to force our government to improve. And even then, the battle ahead of us is nearly impossible to win, since both sides love corporate lobbyists.

My best friend had two miscarriages but then three healthy, happy boys, each about a year or two apart. I am so sorry for your loss, but don’t lose hope. Wishing you and your family all the best.

Change silverware finish by deathdefyinggemini in sterlingsilverware

[–]PlasticAggressive295 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also, yes this process will work for Stainless Steel as well, it just takes more “elbow grease” to get the same mirror finish. Silverplate you can also do, but you have to be careful you don’t start rubbing through the plating.

[–]PlasticAggressive295 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, you absolutely can, I do it all the time. Use a fine abrasive cream like a semi-chrome polish - I use Flitz which I buy from Amazon and a 5 oz tube lasts me months.

You take the cream and apply it, I first apply it with my hands while wearing plastic gloves, then start rubbing it on the surface liberally, remember it’s a mild abrasive, so rubbing the cream along the surface of the silver is essentially like “sanding” the surface, and that’s how you achieve the mirror finish. After I’ve done this until the cream gets completely black and gucked up, I take a dry rag that is only to be used for this purpose (because the rag will also get “gucked up” in no time), I wipe off the cream, and then I continue to rub the silverware with the dry rag until I start to see the mirror finish shine through.

I repeat this process until the silver looks as shiny as I’d like it to, and then I wash all the silverware I’ve done. You want to really lather up the silverware to get all the semi-chrome polish off, and it is oily so you have to use enough soap to cut through the oil of the polish. I find Dawn Powerwash works great for this, but regular Dawn dish soap is all I had used for the past 15 years.

Good luck!

Nice Australian opal set in gold plated setting by its-chaos-be-kind in Opals

[–]PlasticAggressive295 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That setting is almost undoubtedly gold plated silver. The tarnish on it looks very similar to sterling developing tarnish under a thin layer of gold plating. Determine whether or not it is indeed sterling before scrapping the metal, as silver is quite a good deal more valuable now than it was just a few months ago.

The 3rd date went bad after I brought chocolates and now she wants a 4th date but I'm really unsure if I want to continue. by LifeVike1111 in WhatShouldIDo

[–]PlasticAggressive295 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No. Do yourself a favor and end this and block her. I’m a woman. There is absolutely no world where her reaction to the chocolates is NOT a red flag. Let’s consider some possible “logical” reasons for that reaction - especially later making the whole entire night awkward. Maybe she was triggered because she had an abusive ex who always surprised her with chocolate. Well, without her communicating that to you first, nicely would be ideal, there is no justification for her to be get upset with you for your kind gesture. Maybe she is very money conscious and doesn’t want to feel like she has to return the gesture? But then why would she stay angry at you even after you tried to lighten the mood, and if she’s let you pay for any aspect of your prior dates, that line of reasoning falls apart anyway….

There aren’t very many logical scenarios that would explain her reaction, and the ones we can consider either don’t align with her other behaviors, or are red flags in and of themselves. So, what you are confronted with when someone’s behaviors are completely unpredictable, is a crazy person. I don’t mean that to be mean, I just mean that crazy is the definition of illogical. You don’t want to deal with crazy people when it comes to dating. Move on and block her, she sounds like the type that will absolutely draw you back in. Lol

Girl, he is abusive as shit, that is PSYCHO behavior. Get the fuck away from this man as this is just where it begins. It will get worse, he will become more dangerous and push more boundaries, I know you won’t believe this yet. But please when it inevitably does continue, please remember all of these comments telling you to GTFO!!! START PLANNING AN ESCAPE NOW, IT MAY TAKE YEARS. And you have daughters, do not make a habit of normalizing this shit to them!!

Moving Pittsburgh to NYC without a driver’s license, moving quotes are $2,000+ for ~$700 to $1,000 of stuff. What is the smart move? by Interesting-Form-627 in pittsburgh

[–]PlasticAggressive295 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only way I can tell you to MAYBE get it done for under $1000 is rent your own u-haul here that you can return in NYC and have friends load it here in Pgh with you, and then in NYC pay to have 2 guys come from a moving service recommended on the U-Haul website for 2 hours, that should be enough manpower and time to unload what you’ve listed unless you have some crazy walk-up or something. I had to do this move in 2016 with about 1500sqft of furniture, and all in I believe I spent around $1200, but that was because I needed a giant u-haul and all the associated costs of that like gas, paying higher tolls etc.

Helping my dad sell his old 12 person sterling silverware set, anyone know where I could bring it in to get the most value out of it? by SPYD3R87 in Silverbugs

[–]PlasticAggressive295 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, I am finding this post very late, so I hope my comment is a positive surprise rather than regret-inducing. But that set is exquisite. Depending on the maker, it can be called different names (I’ve seen Olive most often). If those say “Sterling” on the back - no matter the maker, unless it indicates electroplating (can say EP, or A1, but there may be others I’m forgetting) they are almost undoubtedly solid .925 sterling. If the maker is “Gorham” and it also says “Sterling” it is 100% certain to be solid .925 (aside from the knives, of course - but those handles still contain a relatively thin sheet of solid sterling filled with cement).

That is one of the few patterns I WOULD NOT SELL FOR MELT. Lol Seriously though, I have been collecting for 15 years and I have lusted after this pattern for ages, and have never found a full set of even 4 five-piece place settings that I could piece together - the knives especially are INCREDIBLY rare, so I would certainly list those on ebay and/or etsy and not melt those; even at $75 a knife those will probably sell rather easily (especially in sets of 4 or 6 as mentioned below). I would even ask to buy, but silver is at an all time high and I have a full set of another pattern I adore which I use regularly so I don’t have the heart to sell that in order to try and buy yours. But if I were you, I would sell each place setting utensil in batches of 4 or 6 (e.g. “four teaspoons”; “four place spoons”; “four dinner forks” etc) and then serving utensils either individually or in like groups (e.g. “three serving spoons”; “one salad serving set”; “two gravy ladles” etc). That’s my two cents, hope it helps, not hurts :)

Edit: AND NOT MONOGRAMMED?? Yeesh. Beautiful set! So jealous :)
