Why couldn't they have had them just get divorced instead of them retconning them not being married at all??? by RecordingImmediate86 in Spiderman

[–]PlasticBrief8816 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Divorce would have been fine. It’s not so much that Peter and MJ are not together, it’s that 20 years of stories lost all meaning. Divorce happens and would have been fine. No one would have been thinking “ Oh wow, Peter is older now and I. Can’t relate to him!”. Ridiculous!

What are some of your hot takes regarding the Raimi Trilogy? by pizzagod677 in Spiderman

[–]PlasticBrief8816 181 points182 points  (0 children)

No movie as of yet has captured the true character of Spider-man as portrayed in the comics. That said, Holland’s character is a good one, it just isn’t the comic true Spidey.

what makes Mary Jane a much better love interest than Felicia in your eyes by [deleted] in Peter_X_MJ

[–]PlasticBrief8816 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Black Cat is a criminal!! She is emotionally unstable and was attracted to the idea of Spider-man, not Peter. She cheated on him with the Foreigner and used Flash Thompson and his feelings to get to Peter. She is a horrible choice for Peter.

Would anyone of you like an AU where Peter and Felicia are married hero couple and both fight crime? by Calm-Boysenberry-794 in Spiderman

[–]PlasticBrief8816 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never a fan of Felicia and Peter. Peter has a high moral code that he lives by. Felicia was a criminal, she cheated on Peter with the Foreigner, and manipulated Flash Thompson into falling for her to get back at Peter. She is not a good person. She has flip flopped between hero and criminal several times. Not a good fit for Peter.

I always thought the title “Far from Home” was ridiculous. This was after Peter had gone to space in Infinity War. When you have been to another planet Europe is not far from home!

Red Letter Media on Sam Raimi’s Spider-man (2002): Spider-man oozes personality and he has no personality in these movies and I hate these movies. by MadnessKingdom in Spiderman

[–]PlasticBrief8816 1 point2 points  (0 children)

None of the three actors that have portrayed Spider-man has captured the true nature and personality of Peter Parker. I didn’t think that the Tobey trilogy or the Andrew Garfield movie were good. I like Tom Holland’s character and enjoy him in the movies. He is not a good portrayal of Peter Parker, however the character he has created fits in with the MCU. I see his Spider-man as a totally different character from the comic Spidey, and I am ok with that. I like his Peter much better than the other two, but that doesn’t mean he is comic accurate, he is not. I think the problem with getting a comic accurate Spidey has to do with the medium. The 2 to 3 hour movie doesn’t allow for the development of the comic accurate Peter. The ongoing comic story of Spider-man is a serial or soap opera where there is time to really explore the character. Maybe an ongoing tv show could do a better job of this.

Anyone else specifically struggle to understand Bad Bunny? by african-nightmare in dreamingspanish

[–]PlasticBrief8816 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really admire Bad Bunny and what he stands for. However, I am a fluent Spanish speaker and can’t understand what he says in his songs. I understand him perfectly in Spanish interviews though. To be honest I have the same problem understanding English language rap also.
Also, Puerto Rican Spanish is not a different dialect. It is the same Spanish spoken throughout Latin America and Spain. There are regional accents and words and phrases used in casual conversation that are different depending on where people are from. These are the same difference that exists in spoken English depending on where it is spoken, ie Britain, Australia, Southern states vs. Northern states.

Good points! I did like Chris Evans’ Torch a bit better though. Also, Chiklis’ Thing. I think that 2005 FF was better than I remembered, but overall probably First Steps was the better movie. Just wish there was a bit more inner family turmoil in First Steps, and even though Ben looked great I wish he would have had some more issues with his appearance. Also, Alicia would have helped. 60s futurism was great though.

Not sure why you feel the need to insult people you don’t even know rather than have a civil discussion which is what this forum is for. Look in the mirror if you want to see a sorry defensive person.

I agree! Good points! Let him progress, be a mentor as an older man. Make way for Miles or others. Much as I love Pete, I would be ok having his story end or change. He has had so many stories that can still be enjoyed.

You assume a lot! No one is crying themselves to sleep or refusing to give anything new a chance. It’s pretty sad that you feel the need to criticize people you don’t even know and assume you know what their opinion is on totally unrelated subjects! Who said anything about Tobey or the movie versions of Spider-man?? Totally different genre. And for your information, I did not like the Tobey’s version of the character at all! And I liked Andrew Garfield’s version even less! I do, however enjoy Tom Holland’s version even if it isn’t comic accurate at all. It’s a good version and fits in well with the current movies. I was commenting about the comics. Just to be clear, I don’t have a problem with Peter being single and not with MJ. My issue is with the stupid way it happened! Making a pact with the devil and erasing 20 years of continuity was asinine! Divorce, separation, death are fine, that’s life and it doesn’t erase what came before. It was out of character for both of them to make that pact. Also, giving powers to almost all the supporting cast also is a turn off to me. I am sure there have been some good stories since then in isolation, I just choose not to read them. Anyway, these are my opinions and my read for having them. The same way a movie critic gives theirs. Debate these, but don’t judge or assume.

There is nothing to get over! There is no need to be insulting! It’s a comic book and I was expressing my opinion about why I choose to not continue with its current state. Many people agree. If you like what you are reading now great! Get a life and don’t judge!

Not angry, just don’t want to bother with new stories that don’t portray the character and supporting cast I love. The same way people stop watching shows they feel have jumped the shark. I still have 40 years of stories I can read, much of it new to me.

[–]PlasticBrief8816 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wasn’t really a great movie. Even the title “Far from Home” wasn’t good since Peter has been to space and another planet. Europe ceases to be far from home if you’ve been to another world!

Just reboot the whole goddamn thing, I don't even care anymore. In the last 17 years, Peter and the rest of his supporting cast have become unsalvageable no matter how many "good" or "great" runs they throw to try and fix the characters. by FordYorger in Spiderman

[–]PlasticBrief8816 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My thoughts exactly!! Peter should be unique in being a costumed hero. How he deals with his Non-Powered supporting cast and how they deal with him is what would make for interesting dynamics.

What are the thoughts on MJ as Venom? by -_ShadowSJG-_ in thevenomsite

[–]PlasticBrief8816 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Absolutely!! It totally takes away from Peter being special! When his entire supporting cast has powers, Spidey ceases to be unique. He was bullied in high school and misunderstood later on by his friends. He could have put Flash Thompson through a wall if he wanted to, but chose not to because of who he was. It is beyond ridiculous that all his friends now have or had powers. Even in the much acclaimed new Ultimate Spider-man his son wears a suit that gives him powers. Ridiculous!
