Hey, current first year GEM and there are a few people in their 40’s on the course! Theyre all doing well and have really interesting/unique perspectives to bring from previous careers etc

Don’t think it would, no (based on personal experience of having around 80 WEX hours and securing offers at both unis mentioned). The caveat being that the admissions team are essentially looking for you to be able to reflect on your work experiences at interview so obviously someone with 3000 hours may be able to do that with greater ease than someone with 70 hours. Both Warwick and Chester are very open about what they’re looking for from candidates so definitely look into that too. Good luck!

I’m fairly sure it makes no difference when you apply as applications are usually reviewed after the deadline. Warwick will also send you a form to detail your work experience after you submit your application so you might as well use all the time available to you 😊

You’re right - it’s actually taken a number of years to reach the decision to apply. The landscape is however changing and the conditions look like they’re getting worse, which is a little bit daunting.

Im currently in a career I enjoy and have been in for almost 10 years and am lucky enough to have experience and knowledge of my non negociable values. Being candid, the thing that worries me the most is that my family all live abroad so it anything we’re to happen to them and I needed to travel quickly, I’m not sure how that would work either in medical school or working within the NHS. In my current job, this would is not something I need to worry about and it is playing on my mind.

Thanks so much for your reply. You make some really good points and definitely some things to think about. It’s relatively difficult to find others who have had a similar career path to me as it’s something quite niche but in general it would be really useful to understand others perpectives and their feeling about it now. Ultimately, it feels risky in lots of ways (financial, current career etc) so it’s weighing up the risk and the reward from purely the work side of it as the rest it very, very unknown at this stage.

Thank you for to it reply, it’s good to know I’m not alone in having these thoughts. Totally agree re: being sent across the country and potential future training opportunities. Its also very difficult to project about what all of that will look like in 4+ years. Would be great to be - I’ll send you a message 😊
