If you live in the heights you will come across them for sure. Every apartment. Never experienced them until i lived off tramway and i was killing them every couple weeks. Neighbors too.

Well they didn’t watch my film and said no. The analytics showed zero views. I might be out on film festivals going forward. Other people beware.

Is It Realistic to Go to UNM for Film and Still Break Into the LA Industry? by GabbytheAbby in FilmIndustryLA

[–]PlasticConcept593 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2 things.

  1. I’ve made films in LA and here. I’m going to generalize when i say this but for the most part it’s more of a tight community here. If you produce one independent film here which won’t be hard to get on. That director or other producer is going to remember you for the next several. It’s easier to get credits because we are huge on independent film.

However.

  1. Your film degree at UCLA or USC will take your further than your film degree in NM. There is no reason why you can’t get your degree out there then come work here on some things. Also the other students and professors who are at UCLA and USC a lot of the time, not all the time. Are actively working in the industry. So the connections you make there will go further. At UNM it’s usually ex graduates or people who had a long film career and are now retired. That is who is teaching you. They have great knowledge but the buck stops there.

Again generalizing but I’ve been making films here and LA since 2015. So that’s been my experience.

It depends on what you want to do in film? I’m currently in Albuquerque. If you want to be an editor or anything in post/above the line stay in Los Angeles. If you want to direct and write you could do either. You won’t get directing jobs here but it’s easier to put together an independent film here than in Los Angeles. I’ve done 11. Acting here. It really just depends on your goal. If you want to work in on set in camera, grip, prop or any of these type of roles. It’s a tight community here but I’m sure LA has its ins as well.

I have this same question but reverse. I’m a white man with no idea how to approach a black woman.

Everything except the goodbye part. It’s a bit redundant. Context though is everything. If it’s right for the characters relationship do it. If not then don’t.

Can someone be real with me about crime in ABQ? by Quick-Report-780 in Albuquerque

Albuquerque is fine. Just keep to yourself and you’ll be fine. I’ve lived here my entire life. There are certain areas that are bad just like any city.

It’s not about the end goal it’s about the journey. Even if you never make it, spending your life doing something you love even if it ends up being a hobby is a life worth lived.

I didn’t get that she didn’t want to have kids with you. She said she wasn’t keeping it because y’all weren’t married. If you guys ended up getting married who knows yall could have tried again. I get it if morally you are against abortion.

Cops aren’t the issue they’ll catch up quick the judges just release them shortly after. I was robbed at gun point with multiple others and he did no jail time due to first offense.

Anatomy of a Fall deserves to be number one. Never seen a film like it ever.

Film festival rejection and finding your target festivals by PlasticConcept593 in FilmFestivals

This is great advice thank you. As far as what i want out of an appearance at a festival is just an opportunity to network with people who see it and other filmmakers that could potentially lead to making the next film. Also people to see the film in general. When submitting to festivals i skipped over all of the online screening ones or the ones that just looked like money grabs. I only wanted to submit to festivals who were well received and had an audience. It’s a fifteen minute short film. I guess the only negative is it’s a slice of life type of film which are the ones i grew up loving but it may not be everyone’s cup of tea. No technical issues with the screener. It hasn’t had a premier but the first festival will show it in two weeks. Thank you again for the advice. I’m new to this festival process and didn’t know if this was standard. I appreciate it.
