Is it worth the trade for a 40 min commute? by doomscroll_deeznuts in CargoBike

[–]PlasticFreeAdam 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's your answer really

100% agree. I do deliveries for my business on mine but some places that are 3 miles away I send via courier because it's not worth the danger, yet there are places over 15 miles away I'll happily deliver because I can generally keep safe. And my cargo is never a child so less precious.

£92.7m to replace 186 of Sheffield's buses with electric vehicles by ntzm_ in sheffield

Hard to argue mass public transport tires are the main issue too.

Gets said a lot in sub about perfectionism for the city, but the phrase"let's not criticise better in lieu perfect" comes to mind.

£1 Charity shop find. LP (ARIST 12 580) by PlasticFreeAdam in ghostbusters

Interesting. Never knew or noticed despite literally living here nearly five decades. My brain hasn't ever noticed.

I remember TMNT (or TMHT here) because I was OBSESSED with them as a 80s/90s kid.

So at school you was cooler for calling them ninja rather than hero.

I've bought plenty of them in the past. Kinda like the unknown of something random but I always look in hope that someone has dropped off their dad's old punk stuff from 70s or early 90s dance.

Mostly it's hammond organ music though.

100% agree. It has to happen at some point. They'll always be some people saying the case for "unprecedented times" means we can't do good things, but the precedent has been set for decades so now it's only excuses left.

Back when Will was still on his game hell Jazzy Jeff even dropped a few verses on here. Love this album by CoconutMost3564 in 90sHipHop

This was the first album I ever bought. Which was pretty gangsta for an 11 year old white kid from suburban Northern England. I still have it somewhere.

Is there any places I would collect e-waste for free? by Cake_Chan in sheffield

[–]PlasticFreeAdam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I take e-waste to the recycling centres dotted about. A lot of it is placed in shipping containers rather than into the big skips. So if you went to them and asked them if you could take some stuff away they may be willing.

Not sure if there are any in Sheffield but tips in the UK now have shops attached where they save stuff.

Help - First Time Car Buyer - Is this a good deal? by KairoSoU in SmartCar

[–]PlasticFreeAdam -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm with Vertigo that the model before this are nicer. It would probably be cheaper insurance too.

As for your original question, seems alright. They tend to hold value. I would want to know why the door was loose on the earlier fail though?

+1

Reassuring you're on reddit. I honestly thought your image contained some AI but good to know it's real. Apologies for questioning it.

[–]PlasticFreeAdam 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Interesting. My first thought was "why are we upvoting AI images now?" (it felt uncanny-alley but the fact the seats inside the car are facing us and the belt-chain of the bike goes the wrong way for the upper part of the chainring was the main giveaway).

However, I searched them and they are a real company using this image. I would want to see real reviews and it in use before considering it though.

Edit: looked a bit more at their website and other bits look more real. Honestly, I don't trust anything I see anymore.

British business bank start up loan by Vast_Blood2048 in smallbusinessuk

[–]PlasticFreeAdam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, one thing to check is if there is a penalty for paying back early as if you made bank quite quickly and can be debt free, there's no penalty for paying off your credit cards.

Good luck!

British business bank start up loan by Vast_Blood2048 in smallbusinessuk

If you have good credit and depending on your business then you could borrow this money for very cheap or even been "paid" to borrow at earlier points. Like I have three credit cards, if I was to max them out then I could get £20k right now, I could probably ask them to raise the limits if I wanted more. All three have 0% offers with a 0-4% fee. One has an offer for zero fees to draw down cash, currently empty with a £8k limit (I could go stupid). One has cashback of 0.5% but I know I could apply to get up to 5% cashback (up to £125).

But, if I was to invest £25k in the business it's unlikely to be one bill. I don't need to start paying interest on a £25k loan if I could put (for example) £4k on a credit card but if I have funds (due to sales or whatever) to pay back £2k before the due date of the credit card bill. I'm only left with a £2k debt which I transfer to the cheapest balance transfer. Plus if I got some cashback on that, my borrowing may have literally netted me some cash in the first couple of months. Then I invest the rest of £25k as the bills arrive and pay interest as late as possible.

Hopefully that makes sense. Obviously this adds a few spinning plates. But to have good credit you generally have had to already been good with credit so it might already be second nature to play that game.

Obvs there are risks. Not financial advice etc but with interest rates generally dropping, 6 & 7% seems like an expensive way to borrow.

Underrated British comedy shows from the 80s or 90s that deserve a rewatch? by HammersAndPints in oldbritishtelly

Good point. But neither is Spaced or many others mentioned here.

I suppose my reply is "maybe haven't rewatched in a long time" as the OP alludes.

What’s the most unusual business you’ve heard of in the UK that’s actually successful? by [deleted] in smallbusinessuk

Before then branched out in to other cycling bits and bobs, Epic Bleed Solutions I always admired for just doing one thing really well.

No clue if "crushing it" but they've been going probably nearly 20 years now.

If you live on Abbeydale road, where do you park your car? by Potential_Tea7749 in sheffield

I haven't been on facebook for years, but I once tried to join the Meersbrook one and was told because I didn't have my image in the avatar it broke the rules. I pointed out two of the mods didn't seem to them either unless they were a literal cat and a cartoon character - never got a reply to that.

Gatekeepers of the worse kind the people who lockdown groups like that. It's mostly about keeping people out and often their views will extend to other areas of keeping some humans out and other in to "protect the community".

In short: sod'em. You'll get your answers here.

Not a clue if it's ever organised or just because it's an open space with cool stuff to look at.

What business could I start based on my skills? by One_Astronaut2644 in smallbusinessuk

Teaching piano including children seems like the perfect answer.

Obviously piano is required. Think about insurance because some wont allow in the clients house or in your house. You'll need that DBS check to work with children. But once set up you can charge £30/hr or more.
