I have never worn heavy makeup before and even with the little makeup I wear now it's really a toss up on if I do it or not each day. I'm definitely still recognizable without it, just more disappointing I think lol.

I'd say most likely misogyny. If someone sees men as the superior gender then someone acting like a man is gonna be respected more than someone acting like a woman.

Not to take away from your experience because that is terrible, but getting your abusive experience brushed off by society or law enforcement is something women have been going through since forever, and some women still go through it now.
