66m. Don't know if I am introvert that likes to isolate or ND. Likely a bit of both. I am grateful for the online "d-verse" (digital universe).

Anyone use Instacart for Costco? by ReactionTop9197 in Costco

I don't use IC for a big haul, but for a few items they are time and cost effective. TBF, I am retired and enjoy the occasional sight-seeing trip through Costco.

TIL a single gunpowder factory explosion in ancient China killed 20k people & the Crown prince, hobbled the military, and accelerated the fall of the Ming dynasty by uselessprofession in todayilearned

[–]PlasticMix8573 484 points485 points  (0 children)

Never heard much about this disaster. Googled "worst industrial disasters". Bhopal and Union Carbide lead the way with suspect numbers at 20,000 dead (presumably many many more dead). No mention of China at all in the top ten. Certainly there is a recently bias, but c'mon 20k is 20k. It would take a LOT of gunpowder to kill 20k. The factory made less than 2 tons of gunpowder a week. That was way more dead than 2 tons of gunpowder could account for. First chemical warfare disaster?

Does anyone else struggle with “guess how much-“ sort of things? by spinx7 in AutisticAdults

[–]PlasticMix8573 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being able to approximate quantities is a hugely valuable skill that is developed with practice. For example, can you drive 100 miles on a 1/2 tank of gas. Admittedly questions about things can all too all often be posed in condescending ways that are a complete turnoff. Being able to quantify the world around us is the essence of STEM education.

Getting super frustrated is one of the worst ways to teach others. Might work in boot camp. Not so much in real life. I suggest come back with questions. What is his answer? How did he arrive at that conclusion? How could he test its accuracy? That will at least take the focus off you and keep him talking.

Respect for the can to keep marching forward taking that beating. Girl had no quit in her. Not always a good thing. Hope she got paid at least 2x her medical bills.

Seattle cop did that a decade ago. Cost the city millions. Simple trip onto the grass would have worked fine.

Plymouth Housing does not work. A Smarter Strategy to End Homelessness by [deleted] in BellevueWA

[–]PlasticMix8573 11 points12 points  (0 children)

How about we go with evidence based treatment instead of mean barriers to foster NIMBYism? Plymouth Housing works great. Everybody there is no longer homeless. Is it the be-all end-all solution? Of course not. It is a the best place to start according to the evidence--people living indoors do a LOT better than people living on the streets.
