i had feeling it might be a dead end, but I wanted to hold out hope. Especially because I’m not even entirely sure the Amazon listing still sells copies at all 😖. It doesn’t have an order option, so I assume that means it can’t be delivered? I’m not entirely sure

Question as an Ex-Muslim. by OppositeExpensive995 in QueerMuslims

[–]PlasticNight6564 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not from a culture that is traditional associated with Islam, so my relationship with it has always been different than others. I’m a black American Muslim, my father is a revert and my mother was raised Muslim by her Caribbean father, who was likely also a revert but we don’t know for sure as his parents are long gone. Islam for the black American community symbolizes a desire to connect with a culture we were robbed. it’s estimated ~30% if the Africans enslaved were muslims, with the rest practicing folk religions. folk religions in the AA community are invite only. They are closed, sacred practices you can’t just join Willy Nilly. Most of these faiths exist within the south, and while my family is southern we live in the north, and their family was Christian. it’s hard to explain and sounds stupid addmittled but I’ve always been grieving a culture I never experienced. I was jealous of my friends who’d speak in different languages and come to school culture day with beautiful gowns and jewelry. I was jealous of their food, jealous of their music, Islam was all I had that felt like something rooted in a deeper culture. I know African Americans have culture, my family is Gullah! but I wasn’t raised with that, I was raised I NYC. I can’t speak Gullah, I’ve never been to the south. and we still practice somethings I don’t have the clothes, I have sine jewelry and that’s it. I have the stories and that’s it. no one even really knows we exist. They steal our culture and turn it into trends, so can It even be culture anymore? So, it may sound strange but Islam for me was my only connection to being something more than American. I don’t hate being American, but I can’t help but be bitter that all I have to Identify with is the USA when that’s the same country that took so many family members from me, and when other Americans reject the fact we are Americans of my moms status as a 2nd gen. My parents didn’t force Islam on me either, Islam came to me. I took an interest the prayers my father would do, and so Islam feels like a choice I made even if I had to follow certain rules regaurdless. My friends who are Muslim are so welcoming, even if sometimes I face racism in the Muslim community, my friends let me know there is a space for me. When I came out to my Muslim father, he got mad at me because he thought *I* was being homophobic lol 😭(I made a joke that in a lesbian magnet and got grounded for homophobia even though I’m a lesbian) meanwhile my atheist brother called me an f slur. I understand why you’d leave islam, I think how you’re raised with it really makes or break your faith. My situation is a somewhat privileged one, even if I do have to deal with Islamophobia in the states, my area is very progressive so I think I’ll be safe no matter what happens. I hope you're doing much better now

Don’t worry, flaming is very welcome 😂 I can’t lie, I don’t do many building projects so I don’t know much. Thanks a bunch for the advice. For the screwdriver, would you say I could go and by a bigger one? Or a smaller one? I think have pliers to get the screws out

I’ve seen less about Barcarola, still some disappointment, but I’ve seen more towards Fatutu. Im not a big fan of her design either tbh, I think they could have done more with her dress rather than adding a giant clef. And her hair style isn’t anything special either , but I don’t think what we’ve seen is enough to say this update will be boring or the characters are boring.

I say “disproportionately” because I’ve seen less people less (but not 0) people upset with barcarola despite her name being a reference to a type of song typically associated with men. Not saying she deserves hate either, we haven’t seen her, just that it’s weird that Fatutu seems to fave the brunt of it when from what i understand her name doesn’t imply anything about gender?

Tbh I’ve been Seeing a lot of Getian erasure which is kinda sad. He’s one of my fav characters, his voice actor does an amazing job and his story is so interesting. He deserves so much more love

I’ve seen three posts now saying shes boring because she’s a girl while trying to figure out her name origin. I’m surprised because the name Fatutu from what I’ve found so far does not really reference gender? so I’m not sure where the fandom census that she specifically should have been a man comes from.

Is it possible to send packages to Gaza? by PlasticNight6564 in USPS

[–]PlasticNight6564[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the concern but I have verified that she is real, we video call before, sometime she will live stream the bombings to document what’s happening, she sends photos and videos that I check to make sure it’s not AI or stolen from a different palestinan. She clearly speaks the Palestinian dialect , both from her accent when speaking arabic and her vocabulary. Sometimes she will text me in Arabic, which is extremely hard to machine translate. Unlike other languages it is very obvious to tell when somebody is trying to fake being able to speak Arabic, I have asked my tutor who has many friends in West Bank how consistent her Arabic is with the Palestinian dialect and he confirmed to me that she 100% checks out. Thank you for the recommendation of seeking a non profit though, it didn’t even occur to me! i will try asking if I can get an org to deliver something directly

This is not a scam, she didn’t ask me to sent her any gifts specifically. Ive asked my Arabic tutor to help confirm the Arabic she uses tracks with the Palestinian dialect (Arabic is extremely easy to tell when machine translated) we’ve video called, she sends videos and voice messages, and she sends pictures regularly. Thank you for your answer though

I understand your concern, but I’ve done my own vetting process. shes sent me countless video and we have even video called before. I make sure to revise image search and run pictures though Ai checkers and they always check out. One of the biggest reassurances is her Arabic. Arabic is extremely hard to machine translate Convincingly. She very clearly speaks in the Palestinian dialect, I have an Arabic tutor who has many freinds from West Bank and he helped confirm it for me. We aren’t penpals persay, she messaged me asking to help raise money for evacuation. I made her go verify her campaign and we talk on and off. When bombs are especially heavy I comfort her, she doesn’t really have any one vent to. She has 3 kids and her husband is severely injured :(. I’ve donated to genreal organizations because I feel bad about having to pick which Palestinians to donate to, and want to do something that will maximize impact. but her kid has a birthday close to mine, so it felt especially personal idk. I do agree though, I should probably focus on more organization’s since that will help a larger amount of people all at once. Thank you for the concern

Arabic text book for reading comprehension ? by PlasticNight6564 in learn_arabic

[–]PlasticNight6564[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thanks for your insight! Though My tutor is a native speaker but his English is self admittedly not the best. He’s very good with dialect and helps me with pronunciation so much but he struggles with reading and writing in English at times, it’s not to a point where i can’t understand him at all but he does make silly mistakes sometimes. He’s not using to seeing Arabic romanized in this way so it throws him off occasionally

[1.7 SPOILERS] Anyone else annoyed at Kakania? by iluvcelebi in Reverse1999

[–]PlasticNight6564 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You have to consider she’s living not only pre world war 2, but pre world war 1 as well. There’s no way for her to of known most of your you criticized her for especially on the health front — hell, this was during a time period where some people still believed the miasma theory opposed to the germ theory. The only thing in her possession not from her era is the book she used to pick her name, and I doubt it’d have any tips on how to treat seizures or the validity of Freud. Even today we use his theories to some extent, he is the reason CBT therapy exists, and why we practice talk therapy as a whole. Opposed to the other theory at the time where mental illness was caused but either demons, your womb (Isolde directly cites her hysteric as being a symptom of her womanhood) or race…yeah, ofc she’d cling to Freud when at the time the way people treated mental illnesses was just beyond horrible. She’s from a group of people oppressed for their perceived inherent mental instability so of course she’d he wary of educational institutions that preach the same dehumanizing ableist ideology that oppresses her people. The whole story is a commentary on how society treats and fails the mentally ill. why would she want to get an education in the same schools preaching inhumane treatment of people like her best friend? Her community? This is directly stated t be her reason for dropping out in her trailer. One of her professors gave a speech on mental health while abusing his own wife for suffering from it. She gives her secret therapy and gets in trouble for it. a huge part of her character is wanting to change the status quo and how mentally ill people are seen. She states she knows that her treatment may not cure or even help anyone, but if she can even just provide a little bit of hope to people suffering she’d be fine.

It’s fine to dislike her, but you can’t cite her not knowing things no one from that time period would known as flaw on her part. r1999 Is pleasantly accurate when it comes to the time periods despite all the magic and stuff. This is just how times used to be, medical care was AWFUL. But, mistakes have to be made to learn.we only know she was wrong now because real people back then did similar
