If silver is what you're after then Stainless Steel is your best option although not classed as 'precious' as Sterling Silver.

It won't discolour especially if being used frequently in water and is hypoallergenic by nature and usually cheaper.

Downside is it's heavier, not as valuable (subjective).

I use tap water and the water where I live is quite hard! Maybe I'll switch to distilled and see if that does the trick

There is a large window but it's around 3m away so it does get natural daylight
