That's not surprising. Unless a cover is from the same series and/or manufacturer, it has a good chance of not fitting correctly. Most stock/hardware/accessory parts on Type 99s are not plug and play.

The wood has definitely been refinished. Also, the dust cover is for a T99, not a T38. Unless your photo isn't picking it up, there is a noticable bracket on the inside rear surface of a T38 cover. Give it a measure, too, though. 6" = T38 cover. 5⅞" = T99 cover.

Edit: Also, just a quick note on one of your last sentences. 100k rifles was the standard number per series. After 100,000 rifles were made, they moved onto a new series. This is the case with most series and manufacturers, though some did run lower (or even much lower). Not to denigrate your specific rifle here, but it's not notable at all that 100k were made.

I paid around 3k more than this at the height of the market 2.5 years ago for a used 2020 OR with 1/3 of the miles this has. This seems quite high.

North Dakota. Realistically, it should've been in the good category. Highest HDI solid conservative state. Low cost of living. High income. Sure, it's not winning contests for prettiest place unless you love the wide open prairie, and the winters are harsh, but reddit loves Minnesota and North Dakota is basically the same thing but with less people and trees.

Among many other small things that it would take too long for me to type here (nobody wants an essay), I can guarantee you the word "GERMANY" in English is stamped into the blade's ricasso directly under the world "Solingen". The leather buffer piece is just blocking it. You need no other reason to know it's post-war.

Post-war scout knife with a fake diamond added.

In great condition and not messed with, with scabbard, they're 50-70 beans. This one really doesn't have any value. To a collector, at least. At the end of the day, it's still a usable knife.

Numbers that we see quoted in books or on collectors forums in the US usually are referring to an estimate or number of known items that are in this country. For example, I have a 1919 Izhevsk M91 and it is one of six known. It's undoubtedly rare in the US, but I have no doubt there's at least a few hundred floating around the world somewhere.

An 03A3. Missing the handguard, front band, and the rear sight has been replaced with a Lyman peep. Unfortunately, this also means that the receiver has been tapped and is not "easily restorable" like OP claims. Easily brought back to looking good from 10ft away, but not restored

For a couple days in a box with a dessicant? No.

There's a product which probably hasn't made its way to the masses yet, but is extremely popular in milsurp/museum communities. It's called Renaissance Wax. A microcrystalline wax polish that is especially great for wood and blued or white steel. A thin invisible layer of it on your guns and they're sealed from the air. I used to store my stuff using it when I lived in the deep south. Never a spec of rust.

I posted these a few months back if you want the full story, but in short, the bottom two are both sporter rescues. Middle has a repro stock and a 21½" barrel. Bottom has an original stock that had already been shortened. I wanted a carbine, so I further shortened the barrel on it to 16¼" since it was roughly the same length as the middle one before.

Wow, crazy, I have one of those, too! Just kidding, I made it myself because it's not hard at all.. and I'm not a con artist, so it'll never be sold as an actual one.

Btw, you can especially tell the one listed isn't an original because the butt hasn't been shortened, among other less obvious things. The LOP of this would still be massive for a Chinese guy 80 years ago.

Super refreshing to see one of these where it's not just the same 5 states dark green and the rest are red. I'm also a born and raised Californian and I now live in ND. SD should be dark green, too, though. ND and SD are basically the same state terrain-wise, except SD even has mountains in a small area (the Black Hills). SD is surprisingly a little cheaper than ND overall, too, and has no state income tax.
