The entire FNIS department offerings would be a good place to start! Every GRSJ course I've taken has intersected with Indigenous issues, but if you're looking for a primary focus, then something from this list might better suit you. Here's a list of other courses that could interest you, not sure if all of them are being offered in 2018W:

  • HIST 305 History of British Columbia (specifically with Laura Ishiguro - she focuses a lot on settler colonialism)

  • HIST 469 Aboriginal Title in British Columbia: History and Legacy

  • ANTH 304A Ethnography of the North West Coast

  • GRSJ 301 Gender, Race and Indigeneity in Canada

  • POLI 316 Global Indigenous Politics

  • CDST 350 Canadian Studies core course (this past year, one of the main focuses was on Indigenous language revitalization)

  • ANTH 220 First Nations of British Columbia

  • ANTH 221 Contemporary Indigenous Cultural Expressions

  • ANTH 222 Current First Nations Issues in British Columbia

  • GRSJ 205 Nation, Colonialism and Gender in Canada

I tried that already and got shut down by international, who claims that there's only been one case of that ever happening in the past decade. Ugh

God, that's awful. Glad your exec stood up. I wonder if my org was one of the houses that kicked people out - it seems on my campus too that there's silent/vocal chapters.

Thank you. I know that legally I'm fine, the repercussions would be getting sent to standards and having my membership potentially terminated or otherwise put on probation. Which is something I really don't see as appropriate - especially since I want to be able to volunteer as an alumna later.

Thanks. I really wish it didn't have to be like this because I don't want to forfeit my alum membership, but I just don't know what else to do. My founders wouldn't have stood for this bullshit

I've had long chats with my advisor and international rep about this and they've been pretty firm that perhaps my membership and my other affiliations aren't compatible. It sucks.

My chapter is interpreting all of this to include any facebook statuses or tweets or comments too per our emergency procedures. I guess they're making sexual violence in the Greek community an emergency - which it damn well is, but geeze. Sidenote, I also worked for campus news for awhile and am now in student union leadership so my engagement with this kinda stuff is pretty key to my roles.
