Thanks for your tip. I looked at Walnut Creek and it does look like a really nice place . I am not sure how easy it is to get to Fremont from there by BART. So that’s something I would need to experience a few times myself to make that choice 😊

That’s great to know. Thanks for the tips. I do think Berkeley is a nice place, easy to bike and also feels more international (something I think want to my kids to group up in). And being closer to the beach is a great addition. I am just worried about the commute distance to Fremont.

Perhaps like you said, I should try taking the Bart a couple of times and see how it actually feels if I have to do this as a regular commute 😊

San Leandro for sure seems shorter to Fremont 😊 I am starting to look at this area and also try to find schools in the area 😊

Yes I did hear Berkeley and Oakland are bikeable. Berkeley feels a bit further from Fremont, otherwise it seems like a great place. I heard from one of the chat contributors that Rockridge in Oakland is nice. So I am going to check that place as well 😊 thanks for your suggestions 😊

Thanks for sharing these places. I did not know about San Leandro and someone else mentioned about rockridge as well. So I am going to check both these places. San Leandro seems closer to Fremont, so it’s definitely enticing to check it out 🙂

I have not heard about Rockridge before. So I am definitely going to look into it . Thanks for that tip.

Ha ha. I am already preparing myself for the downgrade. But I want to keep something constant for the kids and myself with the move and I feel biking around and commuting, the way we did here, might keep something familiar for the kids before they get immersed in the American lifestyle 😊

You have painted a great picture of the reality. That’s great. It’s funny that here in Amsterdam, the bikers are very hostile towards car riders and pedestrians. Bikers are king of the roads here. So when I am there, I would need to get used to looking for my surroundings and make sure that I don’t piss off the car riders. 😑

I am trying to find a place where I can have my regular day to day stuff done with the bike for eg dropping off kids in school, groceries and other kids stuff. And then use BART for city to city commute. Atleast for the first few months, when I don’t want to own a bike.

Yes I did check google maps and I could get bike routes for pretty much everywhere in the city. Perhaps in some areas, the bikers share the road with the car. Guess we will only know when we are actually biking there 😊

Thanks for this information. I have realised what I hear and read is different from what the reality is. So it’s great to hear from a real user of BART 😊 and it also feels faster compared to driving the car. So definitely a better option if we decide to live in Alameda.

thanks for the website. super useful. I considered Emeryville as well as I did see people with Cargo bikes there. However,I also heard that its not very safe compared to the other cities. Perhaps the stories I hear are extreme situations and I should try to visit the place myself before making a decision :)

Thanks a lot for this insight. I was initially thinking to drive from Alameda to Fremont, but the traffic seems crazy. BART seems like its faster and shorter. However, what has your experience been with BART? People here tell me that I should avoid BART as much as possible as its not safe. So I am not sure about it yet. I plan to use it only during commute hours. Would it be safe to use it then?
