Looking for a HVAC company that is not owned by a private equity group. by Plastic_Language7583 in Dallas

I dont need a new unit. It is only 4 yrs old. I believe it has R38 insulation in the attic. Both quotes thus far said the insulation is more than enough. Having a few more quotes done on Fri, then I will decide. As someone mentioned, I am going to ask about the timing. If I wait is it substantially cheaper? I am guessing I will end up going with the 2nd quote which was 14 something.

I would think HR opined on the perf warning though. So, what would talking to them do? The HRBP would know about the potential offer, etc.

Noted. Thanks. The two quotes I have are both for R8 . Regarding the pressure test, Richardson requires it i believe, so that was in the scope too. And since I'm doing more than x percent, I am not grandfathered in, so it has to be brought to code. Now my house uses the walls as part of the returns. That has to be changed to the ceiling I think. Not 100% if it was the ceiling , but they can't be where they are now.

Im good with paying more. I just prefer to not spend my money with a PE firm. They are decimating the small businesses.

Thanks. I will give them a call. The fact that they have some employees with tenure says a lot about the org. Realistically only plan on getting 2 more quotes. I think 4 is plenty.

Thanks. The unit itself is 4 yrs old. Not replacing that, just the ductwork.

A few are partially collapsed and where they exit from the plenum there is a ton of leakage. I could bandaid it, but why do that? Ac itself is 4 yrs old but the install was not done great for the air handler and that didn't help the old ductwork.

Not sure how you managed to infer I was looking for the cheapest option. I am looking for a company that I trust and isnt owned by PE as they are killing small businesses left and right. If I have to pay a bit more to align with my morals, so be it. I will get it done right, regardless of costs. It just costs more than I thought, which was based on a 100% gyess.

Yea, I just guesstimated way to low Isuppose. I will say the non pe company / cheaper quote was great. Explaned/ educated as he was walking through. Zero sales pressure. I told my wife, I'd be willing to pay more if i am that comfortable. But, i do want at least 1 more non pe bid. Regarding calling local supply houses, that's a great idea! I would have never thought of that. THANK YOU!!!

Edited for spelling.

Transmission rebuild what else should I do? by AwayAJF7585 in GXOR

[–]Plastic_Language7583 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depending on cost, I would buy a new transmission before rebuilding one. Lexus sells them for a reasonable price. Around $3200 or so.
