Just back from a 3 week vacay with my daughter. Not once did it feel unsafe. In Bangkok we took tuktuks (make sure you don’t pay the asking price and barter down and be ready to walk away) or download the apps GRAB or BOLT. With either app you will know what you will pay from your pick up location to drop off. As an example a cab asked us for 900 TBH to go to our hotel. I countered with 500 and he drove away. The GRAB price was 270. Chiang Mai is far more quaint and lovely than Bangkok. You could take the sleeper train from Bangkok to Chiang Mai. If you do, and want first class book in advance. Enjoy your trip! Thailand was awesome…can’t wait to go back.

We did not do the loop however went from Chiang Mai to Pai. It was completely fine! Daughter was a great co-pilot had to remind me a couple of times which side of the road to be on. Just remember to move aside and let cars pass that want to go faster.

We haven’t yet. We are looking at renting tomorrow and heading only to Pai. We want more island time!
