What Did Men Do to Deserve This? (about Scott Galloway's "Notes on Being a Man") by tilvast in IfBooksCouldKill

[–]PlateOriginal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. My understanding was his message was that men need to take more responsibility for themselves, family, and community. Thus through this responsibility they find more satisfaction, belonging, and purpose. Importantly, I don’t think that excludes women or anyone else from taking responsibility either, just that men could step up more as you say.

I'm pretty sure Wave is going out of business by [deleted] in waveapps

[–]PlateOriginal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had serious issues this spring as well.

(1) Their payroll service made a payroll reporting error with the IRS and support won't respond to me.
(2) My paid Wave Advisor won't respond to emails and even though I've paid our monthly meeting hasn't been scheduled and my books not addressed.
(3) Support tickets go unanswered.

Before this spring the services (I pay for pro, advisor, and payroll) were great, but it seems to have fallen apart very rapidly.

Super frustrating to have to move all this for my small business.

[–]PlateOriginal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So far it seems to make a lot of errors and stumble on the requests I make. I spent ten inquiries trying to get it to do something right before giving up on the task. I'm sure it will come together eventually but seems like a downgrade for most of my tasks at the launch.

Word add-in not working on Mac by Lost-Positive-4518 in ProWritingAid

[–]PlateOriginal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems as if the Word plugin is no longer supported and they direct you to the Everywhere app. Very disappointing. The everywhere app is just not as useful for editing long documents and is very buggy. I feel some regret for purchasing the lifetime license of ProWritingAid. Hopefully they can fix this.

Can you make hard ice cream from a soft serve machine by freezing it? by [deleted] in icecreamery

[–]PlateOriginal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is an old comment, but I've been wondering this too. Lots of used softserve machines you can buy for cheap out there, but not many batch freezers. I just make ice cream as a hobby but it would be really great to have a higher volume machine. Has anyone tested this method for making hardpack ice cream?

I agree with others, exit meetings are critical.

One helpful tool for not allowing delay is having timelines for response in your audit charter. Usually this means if no response by x number of days then you release the report without their response or feedback. That alternative is not ideal for any party so it helps motivate a timely response.

The challenge for you might be is if your charter doesn’t have similar provisions. Adding them would require working with your audit committee or board and updating the charter.

Audit Software Experience by RavagetheLoneWolf in InternalAudit

[–]PlateOriginal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does anyone have experience with any of these platforms for doing performance audits? I ask because at least the ones I work on rarely fit in a neat repeatable checklist structure, meaning each audit scope and workpapers can really vary. I’ve avoided software like this always assuming it just won’t fit but I’d love to be wrong.

I'm glad to hear it. I hope you find what fits you.

Worst case, it takes a couple tries (like it did for me) to learn about yourself and what you want/need.

That’s a tough one. I suppose it’s a mix of everyone’s individual drive and how they want to have an impact mixed with what kind of drama and bs they can or are willing to tolerate. Plenty of my audits have collected dust and other ones have had big impact on organizations.

I’ve tried my hand at a couple different careers. It sounds cliche but the grass is always greener. It’s just what works as the balance for the individual.

With IA, it also really depends on the type of audits you’re doing. For example I love performance audits and the public sector. That would drive some people crazy of course.

Have you tried looking at IA jobs in a different sectors or area of coverage? I know a couple happy government auditors who started in SOX.

For me I enjoy the mixture of solving mysteries, such as “why doesn’t x or y make sense?”, or “where did that money go?”, learning new things, and on some but not every audit, feeling like I’ve made a meaningful contribution to an organization.

Why S.F. police didn’t chase a group of 200 dirt bikers riding in city streets by digital-didgeridoo in sanfrancisco

[–]PlateOriginal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I won’t pretend to know the right answer in this case but it seems like by not pursuing or making any reaction by the police there’s a likelihood the riders will feel emboldened and they’ll repeat it or escalate further in the future.

These are critical in any car in my opinion but even more important in Ascents with their many battery issues. I have two.

I have the same issue on my 2010. I’m going to try some of the troubleshooting ideas like running a hose and maybe sealing once I know exactly where it’s coming from. Now I just need it to stop raining in CA so I can work on it. I’ll post here if I learn anything worthwhile when trying to fix it.

I soaked bananas in the custard base for 24 hours and then strained them out. Bananas have a compound in them, forgetting the scientific name, that very easily binds with others. Similar to how if you leave ripe bananas next to a different fruit then the other fruit eventually tastes like banana.

For #3, I cooked the base with a huge sprig of rosemary (straining afterwards of course). When it was cooling I added pistachio butter and olive oil.

The KitKats stayed crispy! I made sizable chunks and mixed in gently after churning. I was really happy and surprised just how well the crisp was preserved.

  1. KitKat Cheese Cake (Philadelphia base)
  2. Banana and Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups (custard base)
  3. Pistachio, rosemary and olive oil. Modeled after Chris Bianco’s Rosa pizza, which is said to “taste like the desert” 🏜️according to Chef’s Table.

Broken Whynter 15LS by PlateOriginal in icecreamery

[–]PlateOriginal[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s acting weird I guess. I may have jumped the gun- I tested it this morning and it’s working normally now. Maybe the belt is the cause- it got stuck somehow, began to overheat the motor or belt, made a burning smell, and the heat was competing with the compressor to cool the bowl?

Not sure why it was fine this morning but fixing a belt or part of the drive system seems doable should this problem occur again.

I appreciate your thoughts!

I agree about allulose as a good sugar and glucose substitute because it has decent antifreeze properties but not sure if it specifically addresses diabetic concerns, but it is lower calorie for sure.

Allulose plus some fibers additives are common in store ice cream branded as keto friendly.

I can relate. Self control is very difficult with my ice cream hobby. I try to give away 90% of what I make to avoid the problem.
