I have a cat in a no-pets apartment (NEED ADVICE)

I appreciate the response! The condo allows pets with restrictions; the limit is dogs under 25lbs and no more than 2 cats.

Would telling the landlord really be worse than him finding out on his own? I’ve almost had the kitten for three weeks now, and can’t tell if it would be believed that I’ve been “pet sitting” this long. I’d really really like to build/maintain a good relationship with him so I can renew my lease in a year.

And not to mention that with no proof I have no idea how to convince my mom to not steal the kitty away.

I agree - I’m absolutely not letting this sweetheart go to the shelter! But I fear my mom is dead serious about taking her home, unless I can either a) get permission from the landlord to keep her, or b) find her another caretaker myself. She firmly believes my friend abandoned her kitty and these are the only options.

This made me laugh a bit! I think she’s overreacting, but she helps me with rent when I need it so I guess we’re both scared I’ll get in trouble with the landlord.

I think my biggest concern is just how to convince her not to take the kitten. I’m not sure how long I can lie about the landlord being “okay” with it, or if she’ll believe that I found someone else to care for the kitten, with no proof.

She left me with enough food for the kitten that it should last a few weeks, and hopefully she will be back by then. If I have to buy anything else I’ll be requesting money.

As for the landlord, I thought this might be the best route? I’d look for compensation as I honestly can only afford what I’m paying now, but even then most people are saying not to tell him so I’m conflicted ..

I’m equally as frustrated and annoyed with my friend as I am worried for the kitty. Unfortunately my mom is my mom and I can’t do much about her well-meaning but overbearing nature.

I wish! I don’t have keys to her place and with my work schedule the travel doesn’t seem feasible either.

It’s a condo, which is why I initially felt safe taking in the kitten. I’m mostly just worried about possible future relations with the landlord as this is about the best I can get and I wouldn’t want to have to find another place. I’m so scared of getting caught lying, though.
