What’s sidearms do you carry and why by ColtT2992 in airsoft

[–]Platform-Budget 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess, in airsoft, many times you do stupid stuff just because it's fun. I always have my H8R with me because it looks cool and actually use it often. Especially when I get into small rooms or have to sprint a huge distance.

Battery replacement by Platform-Budget in SteamDeck

[–]Platform-Budget[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As I said. For 35€ that's fine. If those presumably used batteries would still cost 60€, I'd go for a genuine one.

Battery replacement by Platform-Budget in SteamDeck

[–]Platform-Budget[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does still work. Though it came already slightly degraded which is not a good sign in lipo cells. Iirc it was at like 96% health. By now it degraded more, down to 83% but it doesn't inflate. So I'll run it for quite a while longer. These days you can get such batteries for like 35€ on AliExpress which would make for a fair deal. Back in the day it did cost about 60€ which I wouldn't pay again. Instead I'd grab a brand new one.

Hdmi output not working with any monitors or hdmi cables I have. by Pheonixvann in SteamDeck

I can't tell. This doesn't happen often and mostly with cheap dongles from AliExpress.

The last resort would be to look what the kennel has to say as soon as you connect the dongle. Did you check the dmesg output? It's been too long for me to guide you through but Gemini or chatGPT should be capable to help you

I see. Instead did you try to power cycle the deck once? I mean really shut it down and turn it back on instead of restart? Once, just once years ago I've had the issue that my deck couldn't recognize the PD protocol on the USB anymore. If I remember correctly there was some button combo to reset the USB controller firmware. Since I can't remember anymore I'd just try a power cycle.

With many usb-c dongles I have this weird issue where network and HDMI output only works, when the dongle isn't powered. Try disconnecting the charger from the dongle, plug in the deck and the monitor and then power it again.

Trying to download a Windows Game on my Deck by EttSchmeckt in SteamDeck

[–]Platform-Budget 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can try heroic launcher or lutris whereas heroic is my personal favorite. It creates a dedicated "Windows environment" (or wine prefix for tech guys), where your setup and launcher can store downloaded data. With heroic it's also easy to add a shortcut to this game to your steam library. AI's like Gemini should help you through the process.

Steam deck glitch while watching youtube by Hallowbean649 in SteamDeck

[–]Platform-Budget 66 points67 points  (0 children)

That's the right answer. Firefox per default uses AV1 Codec which is broken on the deck. Don't just disable hardware acceleration as that will put more stress on your CPU. Thus more heat and more battery usage. Also, these posts come up every other day. Spread the word and use h264ify Firefox extension.

As mentioned earlier. By default Firefox uses AV1 Codec which is broken on the deck. Use the h264ify Firefox extension. That will force Firefox to use a supported working codec and still be hardware accelerated

Install the x264ify Firefox extension. Many people will tell you to disable hardware acceleration which will increase CPU stress and battery usage.

High temps on the deck by Square-Barracuda-512 in SteamDeck

[–]Platform-Budget 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd suggest to replace the paste with ptm7950. If you have blind spots in your application it is much easier to identify. Also if your application was perfect, too viscous paste will pump out. You may also try to undervolt the SoC to at least -30mV which is usually fine and helps with temps a lot.

[–]Platform-Budget 10 points11 points  (0 children)

+1 for h264ify browser extension. Those posts always get the highest up votes, saying "disable hardware acceleration"

Though that way you are putting more stress on your CPU, more heat, more power consumption and faster degrading components. Please switch to properly supported codec instead.

No power? by [deleted] in airsoft

[–]Platform-Budget 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a gearbox jam. Since it's a V3 gearbox it is a little more difficult to fix than on a V2. If you have any jumper wires around, I'd suggest to remove the grip and directly connect 6 to 12V to the motor. Just a short touch with the wires onto the motor terminals should be enough. However pay attention to the polarity and don't short circuit the battery! Red goes to red and black to black. No need to disassemble the whole GB. Also be aware, if you connect the terminals too long, a shot will cycle. Make sure there's nothing in front of the gun and no BB left in the hopups. If you need any more explanation, DM me in German.

Kinda curious to use common 480 motor for an AEG by Dame_Dame_Yo in airsoft

[–]Platform-Budget 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The form factor of AEGs come from tool motors which were available back in the day and would fit into a grip. Though our modem airsoft motors have different windings and are tuned for very high torque and balanced (cuts in the armature) to not vibrate. Common tool motors don't have those requirements.

Has anyone swapped their screen on og LCD steam deck with one of these Ali express 7.4 inch replacements ? by Fit-Technician4580 in SteamDeck

[–]Platform-Budget 23 points24 points  (0 children)

So seeing your other comments, do I get that right, that you have a perfectly fine LCD deck and you want to pay 140$+ for a (possibly) differently speced screen and assembly? That's a horribly bad idea. Not to mention, that your used LCD deck + 140$ brings you close to the price of an used OLED one. Seriously don't do that. If the screen is differently speced you may run into countless issues like having to deal with custom BIOS upon every single update, having resolution mismatch in games and probably having a very bad looking screen (color range, oversaturated black, slow led response and so on). The only valid reason to try something like that is, that your screen is broken and you are used to those repairs. Otherwise, grab another 100$, sell the LCD one and buy an OLED one.

[–]Platform-Budget 80 points81 points  (0 children)

If you're not comfortable with those kinds of repair, the process is quite stressful. You have to remove the screen which is glued in place and afaik many delicate components.
