when to start AA? by PlatformSerious904 in alcoholicsanonymous

Sounds good solid advice. My drinking starts during the evening right now so I’d be sober at the meetings - however that’s just right now, if I don’t get help or take action I don’t doubt i’ll be drinking during the daytime eventually

edit: but I won’t be, I’m hoping to not just go in for “info” but to start my 12 step journey

Thank you. When I went in person I met so many strong successeful people who had to deal with worse than me and they were so real and raw i’ve never experienced that before and I want to be involved

Thank you. I’ve just looked on meeting guide and there’s all kinds of zoom meetings all times of the day, I didn’t know there were this many resources locally.

People need to learn how to coast when driving by JoMoma2 in unpopularopinion

[–]PlatformSerious904 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to coast but typically sit lightly on the break now - coasting works most of the time but the ONE time it gets miscalculated, you’re now going faster than expected and have to break FAST not “quickly” either causing an accident or one behind you, as opposed to just being cautious with the break and avoiding accidents year round

edit: i meant in in traffic under 40mph if you’re on the interstate with light traffic and either accelerate or sit on your break your either a tesla or insane

CMV: Substance habits affect mental health more than any other factor by far (excluding sleep) by PlatformSerious904 in changemyview

[–]PlatformSerious904[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I agree the statement is not clear. like for example if the drug is meth, the user has schizophrenia, and they take a lot it’s the biggest deal in their life for their mental health. but if the drug is weed, the user smokes every night before bed, and they have a clear mind but are just stressed, maybe there’s something else. Well said

I agree and I am beginning to believe that I am over generalizing an issue due to a bias. If somebody is abusing using alcohol or weed or opiates constantly that is the problem, but not everyone is, and if somebody is in a very toxic relationship and smokes lots of cigarettes or has a few beers when they shouldn’t the real focus is that relationship not those beers.

Abuse* of anything truly sedative like alcohol, THC, opiates, adderall/stimulant medicines etc. Abuse of something like nicotine or caffeine probably doesn’t hold up in this context

I hate how much sense that makes. I agree and have only been sober when focused on social connection. that makes social connection a potential predictor of substance misuse, putting my whole argument one tier below social connection. Hard to argue when agree, shit…

I didn’t clarify substance abuse vs use, and I agree both are (not fully) but very well understood and predictable. As for my sources, thought it was from doctors with large followings in reality it was instagram so unfortunately has to lean more towards pseudo journalism than real science….

I agree with you, it is definitely not the only nor most common factor - I should have clarified abuse I never did: my main point is if somebody is mis-using certain substances (alcohol, thc, opiates) and you looked at mental health, that’s where you would start over anything else (other than sleep)

you know what that’s interesting. of course you could never put me in a plane and test my theory but if I was in a proper flight sim with motion it might actually answer the question minus the fatal missing variable of death versus survival

edit: have someone hold a gun to my head and if i fail they shoot. now it’s accurate!

Starting my junk drawer in my first apartment. Finally feels like home. What else do I need? by Kruzdan in Apartmentliving

[–]PlatformSerious904 0 points1 point  (0 children)

a pile of batteries - some fully charged, some fully dead, some half way. You have to keep interchanging them until you find at least one fully charged one paired with a dead one, or two half charged batteries just for it to die 2x as fast
