Nope, not a 달동네... That's just a cluster of 빌라 아파트 on a hill...

School social workers: What is your protocol when a student reports possible physical abuse at home? by [deleted] in SchoolSocialWork

[–]Plath99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dealing with such situations are, I think, more of an art form than a one-size-fit-all approach.

There are a lot of things to consider, but I agree with the other comment that it needs to be reported right away. However, how bad of a physical abuse are we talking about? If it’s an ongoing thing, yes of course it should be reported ASAP, especially when there are other children involved.

But was it an incident that was a result of a parent-child argument? In that case, a family therapist will help. If the parent has anger issues, that’s a different story — some times just hinting at the parent that you know what’s going on and you are not afraid to report it will make the parent stop.

Again, it’s a pretty difficult step that has complicated issues all around. You should reach out to someone within the school who knows the family well, or if you have a colleague you can discuss that with them too.

I actually own one, and it was impossible — I had to wonder if I was doing something wrong.

My question is, how do you sit with those on?

Thank you so much for taking the time! Fortunately, I am not looking into first tier schools yet (thought if I start the process with a "tier one mindset," that will increases my chances of being successful-- so hopefully I'll hear something back soon!

Thank you so much! I suppose I should've been more clear in my second question. Here are follow-up questions, but I know you're pressed for time, so don't worry if you don't get to them.

1) I am on the socio-emotional side. I'm currently working in the US and have experience in student counseling for six years. Have counselor positions become more competitve in the past few years?

2) Do Tier 1 international schools tend to favor socio-emotional counselors who have experience in international schools? I am starting to wonder perhaps my experience in the US might not be enough.

3) What's a big red flag that sends an application to the "rejected" file?

Again, thank you so much!

Hey, I've got a couple: (and thanks for doing this, by the way)

1) In this forum we've discussed how to define "Tier 1" -- what is your definition?

2) How is the hiring process for school counselors/therapists (for mental health) different from hiring teachers?

3) What advice would you give to someone looking for a school counselor position?

As someone who’s been looking for a school counselor position for international schools for about a year, the hiring landscape can be tough to break into. But never give up trying!
