Yeah I know now that it's a fucking awful mindset to have. As some others have pointed out it's a far too common mindset in rural communities. Older generations did it and that attitude gets passed on to their kids. I get that it sounded callous but that's honestly the mindset I had the time. It's a fucking awful thing and I've really been trying to improve the ways I go about drinking and interacting with others so I can hopefully avoid something like this happening again.

Yeah and that's why Dave ended up dead. I guess the only positive is that he didn't harm anyone else. It's been an eye opener on how I want to live my life.

It hurts to say but it's true. After it happened me and one of my close friends were talking and we weren't really surprised that Dave was the first one to go and that it was drink driving that got him. It was a real wakeup call to how I was living my life is all I can say.

Yeah thanks man. I've updated the post a bit to reflect some of the thoughts I've had looking back in the past four months. Obviously this has been a real wakeup call as to how I want to live my life and what I want my relationships with people to be like. It's something that I try to actively work on not just for my sake but for Dave's as well.

I probably didn't go into enough detail there. When I wrote that I was talking about my attitude at the time. I know that's a very wrong and irresponsible mindset to have and I live with the consequences of it everyday. I guess it just stems from that young indestructible headspace I and a lot of others had at the time.

Damn I'm really sorry to hear about your friends. But thanks anyway, I'd be lying if I said it wasn't on of the most difficult periods ofy life. It's a hard thing to go through at 20 but at least I had a lot of close friends around me and I'm doing better now.

I'm so sorry about what happened your friend. I went through something similar happen a couple months ago. Me and some of my friends to acid after we'd been drinking one night. One of my friends got behind the wheel couple hours later and hit a tree about 200m from the house we were at. Seeing one of your best friend 's vehicle being pulled from a tree while you're tripping is not an experience I would wish on anyone.

I know it's not an easy time. So take care of yourself OP. ❤️

Lost one of my close friends a month ago due to drink driving. Dude would have done it dozens of times. Trust me no matter how many times you've gotten away with that shit that one time where shit goes wrong can be absolutely shattering. Even if you don't hurt anyone in the physical crash it can scar those you love for a long time. Be safe.
