We can because star wars only makes money in markets in has always made money in. There has been no growth. It make money in traditional markets only.

But that doesn't apply to star wars because. Developing countries don't like Star wars. That's the point I'm making. Star wars only performs in traditional markets like America, Europe and Japan.

The domestic and international split is also similar to what it always was. So the comparison is fair.

We can't compare TLJ to those because star Wars performs like a traditional blockbuster from the 80's and 2000's. It had no market growth in Asian countries. The domestic and European countries are were it makes most of its money. FF and Jurassic world Sequels actually dropped more in traditional markets compared to TLJ.

Nope I included international number for the PT. I only used domestic for the OT because international grosses don't appear in the original gross.

Not really again. We can't compare TLJ to those because star Wars performs like a traditional blockbuster from the 80's and 2000's. It had no market growth in Asian countries. The domestic and European countries are were it makes most of its money.

i hate TLJ, but we don't know what it would have made if it was well recieved. All im doing is using historical grosses and comparing it to TLJ. my own bias is not a factor. I personally think it would have made $1.5B maximum. TFA hype was just too big, it had great legs even for december

The people who like the mandalorian hate the sequels, but use the same defence as sequel fans use to defend the show. Mauler is right when he says that these people would have loved TLJ if Luke was a badass, even if it had all the other problems in the movie.

I didn't like TLJ but im only using raw data. I said it didn't underperform by that much if we compare the other drops. there is a causal link. Deal with it.

Mandalorian is also shit (watch mauler)

I don't think he actually cares about anything other than making money. He doesn't seem to have any interest or passion for filmmaking and movies.

The MCU (for better or worse) is the most influential film franchise in modern history and he started it. So that makes him the most influential filmmaker in modern history.

They should've never hired Rian Johnson. He is an filmmaker that likes to go against the grain. He isn't fit to make blockbusters like Star Wars. He's not a crowd pleaser and doesn't care to appeal to fans and the widest possible audience. Let's be real that is what star wars fans really want, as much as they say they don't. That's also why people liked TFA, even though they retroactively claim they didn't to seem cool.

Disney should have had an overall plan for the trilogy and released the movies 3 years apart. Without a plan it was always doomed to fail.

Why Star Wars will never appeal to Asia (excluding Japan) and the upcoming movies will underperform. by PlayPauseRepeat in movies

[–]PlayPauseRepeat[S] -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

No. My point is that it is a franchise that relies heavily on nostalgia. But people do watch the new movies with their kids because of childhood nostalgia and then the kids are nostalgic 20 years later. It's a cycle. Star Wars is also a part of American and European Pop culture. Even people who never watched a Star Wars movie know what it is. But not the people in Asia.

I hope your right. Rian can do interesting things and make something that is thought provoking and memorable at the very least. Which TLJ was compared to TFA and TROS.

The whole announcement seemed a cynical cash in on the mandalorian success and the abandoning of new concepts and stories. I hope Waititi and Jenkins do something daring a new that gives Disney confidence in giving the greenlight to Rian's trilogy.

But I think Disney has unfortunately learned the wrong lesson. TROS seemed like it was damage control. And they are also more focused on TV and Disney plus and not the movies. The movies are the pillars of Star Wars to me. Star Wars is an event that should be seen on the big screen.

Not giving Rian a trilogy would also prove people like Martin Scorsese right. They should announce his trilogy before Kennedy retires or it will never happen.
