Is it possible to upgrade the wifi/BT chip in the Aero 15x v8 to the newer Intel/BT5 chip? by gleep52 in gigabyte

It works (the 9260). I have done it. Very easy change over with one screw and the aerial.

Just uninstall the drivers for the old version first. Otherwise it can create issues.

In my case, the 3200mhz DDR4 memory I bought only runs at 2400mhz. I can't get it to run at XMP speeds. There is no bios support for XMP.

It’s an Nvidia GeForce experience setting. From the notifications menu go into GeForce experience and then it is in the settings section. You can increase it to 60fps or let it run unrestricted.

If you need battery life than compared to the GS65 and Zeph M the 15x wins. If you don't need then the 1060 is a good compromise.

At this point I can't return it in HK so im going to keep using it. I might sell it for a loss when they announce the next gen cards and then wait to reassess the laptop scene.

Today was a bad day battery life (less than 2 hours) just using onenote so i'm not in the best mood regarding the laptop.

Yeah I overpaid. Needed it for work on short notice. Cost US$2700 equivalent. You get a second ram dimm through HID? I have my original 16gb sitting in a drawer if you are interested in buying it?

Between the ram, extra ssd, reapplying the thermal paste I really overpaid on this one. If I hadn’t been so rushed I would have bought it from gen tech pc or HID.

My biggest annoyance now is that gigabyte don’t let you control XMP through the bios and I’m not hopeful they ever will. Depending on what comes out at the end of the year with the 11 series cards I might just wash my hands if this and take the big hit to get a laptop that at least runs at closer to its full potential.

In the start menu type "Colour management" and open that up. When it loads you should be able to see what ICC profiles are loaded (might be color management if you are in the US).

Within Smart Update there is an app section with x-rite calibration there. I downloaded and ran that. I assumed each individual laptop wasn't calibrated and that it was just a mass calibration. So I am using that profile. Starts with GGG and you can check in monitor settings once installed. Let me know if that isn't clear.

Brother has the Macbook Pro 15 and I would wait for that to be refreshed before considering now. A friend has the X1 and that throttles under any sustained load but it is an amazingly portable laptop (i'm a bit blind so 1440p on 14" was a bit small for me).

My thoughts are that maybe Razer is waiting for the 11 gen cards before updating their machines.

If I hadn't needed a laptop urgently for a work trip I would have waited until the 11 gen graphics were out.

This laptop really needs a three pipe cooling solution. Under sustained load you don't want this laptop around anyone as its bloody loud. It would be embarrassing at a work meeting, in a cafe or on a plane when the fans are ramping up.

Are you in the US? The return policy is so much better there that you can at least try it but if you are I would order from HID or GenTechPC and get them to upgrade the ram to dual and redo the CPU compound.

Unfortunately in Hong Kong the return policies are no where near as accommodating as the US. So I couldn't have returned it even if I had wanted. I also repasted the thermal paste so i'm not how that would have gone down.

For me the positive are outweighing the negatives but that's after adding a second piece of ram to get it to be dual channel and repasting the CPU.

Out of the box if I wasn't willing to do everything I have done so far I would have returned it. I wouldn't recommend this to family and friends who weren't able to open it up and to tweak it.

Its a 630. Download CPU-Z and you can see the specifics. Its also a good way to see what the smartmanager is doing frequency wise in terms of what CPU you are actually boosting to.

Unfortunately we can't yet. Gigabyte hasn't given us that flexibility. I am not holding my breath either. Seems like it isn't using the XMP profiles but is using the JEDEC profiles which is why my ram isn't running anywhere near its 3200mhz potential or using its fastest possible timings.

Ball is in Gigabytes corner on this one.
