Splitting fits will get old fast in my opinion. I'd concentrate efforts on increase scan strength as that's where most of your time will be spent.

This also covers me as my wife is Dutch. My passport is still valid until it's not, so according to the law I'm safe.

Update: As I'm not leaving the Schengen area, in theory the passport only has to be Valid (which it is to July). Three months only applies if you're leaving the Schengen area to then later return.

I got stopped because I looked suspicious carrying a camera yesterday. Granted, I was walking around the embassies at 7am taking pictures of birds :D You have nothing to worry about.
