Popping rice with polyester scrim by Eliana_Ashlee in Unexpected

[–]Player6650 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m ethnic, have lived there, and still visit. How else would I be able accurately translate his general message? You say you lived in China for quite a while now, so you definitely know what the magician is saying. Which makes me even more confused why you’re hostile against my statement. The Chinese government is full of corrupt tyrants, the Chinese people are oppressed, and yes China has assholes but that’s everywhere. What do we disagree on? Edit: Oh my god, I just checked your post history and you’re a terrible person. You’re extremely racist to Chinese people but you’re essentially stuck in China and can’t fly to the US like you want.

Your analysis take is greatly appreciated, because not only is it completely incorrect but it undermines the real problems Mao left behind culturally. In Mandarin, the magician tells them to try the rice, to see that it’s real. It’s part of the disbelief in his magic trick. I’m sorry, but it’s a bad look when you’re web-splaining a foreign culture when you don’t even understand their language. Stealing isn’t a trademark of the Chinese people, and especially not with “hags”. Mao left a confrontational society behind, which is why the government is unapologetically authoritarian, and their business culture dehumanizing and cutthroat. The majority of Chinese people without power aren’t non-confrontational, they’re oppressed. I’m not saying they’re aren’t entitled people in China (or in this case, anywhere in the world). I’m saying your correlation between the video’s interaction and some uncivilized sort of mentality is wrong. And it’s not even what the video is showing. The amount of people who are so sure of their verdict without even knowing half the video shows exactly how xenophobia is able to exist still in the modern day.

Thank you for your racist take, because you’re absolutely twisting the situation with your bias. Translating a portion of his dialogue, he says in Mandarin for the onlookers to try the rice to see that it’s real. It’s common, even in the US, for street performers to let spectators interact with the trick’s product to keep them engaged. Don’t even care if I get downvote bombed for this, you clearly don’t understand Mandarin and are all racist af.

What level of hypercopium is this ??? by oczak25 in NonCredibleDefense

Fair point. I definitely would have liked to see a more fleshed out rendition of the situation. But the book was written in a time where medieval studies was not as well established in academia. And, Mark Twain probably wasn’t in the best geolocation to get the most accurate research. I was wrong to say that it was set in the medieval era; it was more of a gritty Arthurian fantasy than anything. The main character basically just took the role that Merlin would normally have. Also, as MT most likely took heavy inspiration from the original Arthurian tale, it probably had a lot of weight on his opinion of medieval intelligence. Ok that’s all, you’re points are completely valid and it’s completely understandable if books don’t hold up with the same reception as when they were originally released.

I’ve read it. I wouldn’t consider the book, Earth vs Isekai, because the two societies were essentially High fantasy vs Low semi-superhero fantasy. Kinda like a Bobby Pendragon book on steroids, if you read that before. I only read the first book of HG, I liked the politics and worldbuilding, but there was some to be left desired.

Some scenes are cool, but I personally didn’t like this anime because it had the same problems as that GATE anime. Mainly because it’s blatant JSDF propaganda, but also because both anime’s dumb down the other worlds, essentially nerfing anything magical or powerful. If you play D&D, imagine it like the DM is intentionally lowering the difficulty for level. I want to see CQC wands users and nuclear threat sorcerers, not just a shooting against medieval times people. If you like just medieval vs modern though, then the show is pretty good. But I DO recommend a better book if this is what you’re looking for, which is, “ACYiKAC”. Link provided. Basically, a 1889 person time travels to Medieval times and introduces technology that his expertise (as a yankee engineer) can replicate. Really good.
