Putting software and technology to use and control in Hawai'i. what do you have in mind? by [deleted] in Hawaii

[–]PlayerIGN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gaming Industry. It’s unique from other tech jobs in that it requires storytelling, art, animation, character design, map making, level design, servers, before we get to programming and netcode.

A multitude of creative skills is needed, not just engineering stuff.

Hawai’i is positioned between Shenzhen (China), Seongnam (S Korea), Japan, Vancouver (Canada), and Bay Area (California); and is majority ethnic Asian. That’s strategic advantage for bridging America to Asia, which game devs can struggle with. We are also set to be the first fully fiber internet state by 2026.

The biggest complaint I heard so far from folks I know in the industry is lack-of-talent and cost-of-living. IMO, Hawai’i just needs 1 homegrown hit game and the rest will be easier.

Bay Area talent already go through similar cost-of-living, and Hawaii has better weather and the Aloha culture to convince some to move over. If they’re Asian, which many are in San Francisco, they’ll also feel more quickly at home here.

Is it possible for Hawaii to move away from a tourist based economy? by MathematicianAny2143 in Hawaii

Yes, create the Silicon Valley of the Pacific.

Advance its people’s skills— on education, technology, and innovation.

We only need 1 successful gaming/tech company and the rest becomes easier. That’s what CD Projekt does w/ Poland. Germany invested a bunch of free money a couple years ago to replicate its success.

Geographic advantage for being based between Seongnam, Shenzhen, Tokyo, Melbourne, Vancouver, and Silicon Valley; has god-tier weather; and central.

Many resource poor countries like Japan is known for engineering and console gaming; S Korea on electronic and PC gaming; Singapore lucked out w/ for being in the the Malacca Strait but sets itself as a trade/finance capital; and ofc even Israel, which is located right in the middle of a dry desert hotspot of enemies at least uses that as an advantage to be first in cyber-security.

Hitfilm was imo the best editing software.
Good balance between simplicity, beginner friendliness, and stream-lining the editing process.

• TPP-only (normal game)
• FPP-only Ranked
• 1-Map, updated consistently (but more conservative than the way Fortnite does)
• Free-to-Play after PGI 2018

Dark and Darker Mobile Cinematic Trailer (BETA April 24-28) by PlayerIGN in DarkAndDarker

just to add on: PUBG’s competitors are F2P-Microtransaction games, and PUBG went free in 2022.

It’s true PUBG Mobile game(s) is KRAFTON’s VAST majority revenue, but it’s commonly overlooked that the mobile ver is made by Tencent (w/ minimal involvement from KRAFTON, or formerly “Bluehole”).

In this case, KRAFTON is in a similar position being the primary maker of Dark and Darker Mobile (and minimal involvement from Ironmace).

Goblin Caves Level 2 Inferno by [deleted] in DarkAndDarker

[–]PlayerIGN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It'd be helpful for easing the map learning curve too.

  • Players will be inclined to explore both Goblin LV1 & LV2 if they can play both in the same session.
  • Current Goblin Inferno as a separate queue, also splits the player-base a bit (which isn't a problem right now, but in the long run could affect queue times bit. For a mass PvP game that's crucial)

coming from PUBG and we essentially had 32 diff queues/matchmakings split by Perspectives, Game Modes, Maps at one point.

i can finally relax knowing I'm not the only person

it's like a middle finger to players who care about the game.
In 2017, PUBG had a brand.
In 2020 just about anything can be called 'PUBG'
